Spanish 1
Teachers: Mr. R Shurley and Mr. J Zuluaga
Course Objectives:
The Spanish 1 program develops four basic skills involved in learning a
language-listening, speaking, reading and writing in a cultural content.
Listening and speaking are developed through use of videotapes, CDs and oral
exercises. The reading selections include dialogues and cultural readings.
The writing exercises include workbook, textbook, CD and optional online
activities. Students are introduced to geography and given a brief overview
of some cultural aspects of the Spanish-speaking world.
Course Evaluation:
Assessments will be made in listening, speaking, reading, writing and
culture. Grades will be determined as follows:
Daily warm-ups and homework 5% (not accepted late unless student was
absent)
Quizzes 10%
Class work 15%
Projects 15% (2 points deducted from grade for every
day late)
Tests 20%
Mid Term Exam 15%
Final Exam 15%
Students who earn a D or lower on tests must return them with a parent
signature. All quizzes and tests will be kept in student files in the
classrooms.
Students who earn a D or below on a test or quiz are highly encouraged to
study for a re-take to be scheduled within a week of the original test or
quiz.
Note: Re-take tests and quizzes will be based on the same material, but
different and more challenging than their original.
