WELCOME TO THE 2010 - 2011 SCHOOL YEAR AT BOOKER MIDDLE SCHOOL!!!!

This year, our theme will continue to be "Work Toward Your Own Independence!"
Core classes will incorporate life skills such as budgeting, banking, health
sciences, home economics, career development, affective training, time
management, cultural diversity, and community services. Students will
experience, first hand, the working world through demonstrations, guest
speakers and job shadowing. Each student will create personal career goals
and a plan of action they can follow to attain those goals. Futures are the
focus for this exciting year at Booker Middle School!!!

As you know, research says that the best environment for learning includes a
low teacher/student ratio. We have grown in numbers since last school term.
This class now has eighteen full-time students. In response, our
administration has graciously assigned another teacher, Ms. Kerr to our
program. Ms. Kerr comes with a notable love for the kids and extensive
training regarding research-based strategies for academic instruction. She is
an experienced instructor in special education. We will be sharing the
responsibility of teaching the children their core classes (Language Arts,
Math, Science, and Social Studies). I will continue to be the
Reading/Language Arts teacher as well as math. Ms. Kerr will teach Social
Studies and Science. We are located in adjoining rooms and will be planning
our lessons together. Each of us will also have an assistant
(paraprofessional) assigned to our classroom. I want you to know that I am
very excited about this plan as I believe it will enable each child to get
the personal instruction he/she needs/deserves.

We will continue to use Angelweb for academic activities. Students will be
able to access these assignments from home, if they have internet access.
They will also be given class time to complete these assignments.

TO ALL OF OUR CLASSMATES WHO ARE ON A GREAT ADVENTURE THIS YEAR, IN HIGH

needs to be completed, signed, and returned right away. We do appreciate
your participation in teaching your child to be responsible/prompt with these
kind of things.

In November, we will be a part of the National Guard team!!!! Be sure to
bring your permission slip back, signed, so you can climb their rock wall!
