Homework

Research states that if a child reads for just thirty minutes per day, 
his/her reading skills will increase. As a result, I require all of my 
students to read thirty minutes each day, for homework.  It doesn't matter 
what they read...comic books, magazines, bedtime stories to a younger 
brother or sister, etc., as long as they are actively reading.  On this 
website is a link to cool graphic books they can read or have it read to them 
by the computer. After they finish reading, they need to write one sentence 
that summarizes the main idea of what they read. 

In addition, our classroom's standard homework policy is:  If a student 
consistently does not finish work in class, he or she will take it home, 
complete it, and  return it for a grade.  Make up work from absences will 
also be considered  homework. Extra credit assignments are to be completed at 
home.  Parent packets for academic practice are available upon request. 

Homework in other areas, will vary throughout the year and will be posted 
accordingly.

Math
Group 1:  TL, PM, CH, JL, BF, 
Group 2:  CH, JL, JD, BF, TR, KP, WW, DS, TF, AP, KP, PM, TL, KL   
Group 3:  JC, DG
Group 4:  GE, DG

DAILY:
Groups 1 and 2:  Practice counting backwards from 20 to 0. Fold a paper into 
four sections.  Write 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 
5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 straight down the page, one number per line.  Then fold it 
back, so you cannot see it and write 20 - 0 again.  When you are done with 
that, fold the paper so you cannot see what you have already written, and do 
it again.  Keep doing this until all four columns of numbers have been 
written.  Bring this back to school every day.  This will be your homework 
assignment until you have passed your classroom assignments with a 90% or 
better which means you have mastered it.

GROUP 3:  You are to write number sequences for 4's, 
6's, 7's, 8's, 9's, 11's and 12's.  
Bring these papers back to school every day.  

GROUP 3:  CONTINUE TO STUDY MULTIPLICATION SEQUENCES through the 
number 12.  For example: 3, 6, 9, 12, etc., not just facts. You must be very 
familiar with each number's multiplication sequence in order to do advanced 
work.  You may pick up worksheets to take home to practice.  They are located 
in the trays beside my desk.  

These assignments are your homework until you consistently score 
a 90% or better on pop quizzes, which means you have mastered it or you no 
longer need to add in order to get the answers.


ONE TIME ASSIGNMENT FOR GROUP 3:
1. Make a rap song, poem, or any other rhyme that will help you learn the 
sequences.

ANY INCOMPLETE CLASSWORK NEEDS TO BE TAKEN HOME TO DO AS HOMEWORK.
