Do I need Foreign Language to graduate from high school?

A student does not need to take any credits of foreign language in high
school in order to meet the graduation requirements; however, most
universities and colleges require applicants to have completed 2 or 3
credits (depending on the university) of a foreign language in order to be
considered for admission.

What do I do if I need help with Spanish?

I am available to meet any student after school who feels he/she may be
falling behind or for extra help. Also, the Spanish Honor Society offers a
tutoring program where trained members meet with students on a weekly basis.
A tutoring schedule will be implemented soon. You can also practice your
Spanish on your own as well...just check out some of the links I have
included on this website for resources.

What are some tips for learning to speak Spanish fluently?

In language learning we often times experience a "trial and error" pattern.
You must be willing to take risks and make mistakes. Speak Spanish wherever
you can, even if you know your usage isn't perfect. Also, it is essential
for a learner to immerse him/herself in the language. The more you use it
and listen to it, the greater the opportunity for acquiring new words,
expressions, and ways of speaking. Try tuning in to a Spanish television
show, volunteering in events that involve Spanish (like "Calle Ocho" in
Miami), or make friends with Spanish-speakers where you live/work and
communicate with them in Spanish as often as you can. In my opinion,
spending time in a spanish-speaking country is the greatest way to learn
about language and culture (ie. trips, study abroad or exchange programs...)

What is the World Languages Academic Competition?

This is a disctrict competition in which a select number of students from
each school in Broward County participate in language-related event. It is a
great opportunity for students to demonstrate their talent in Spanish as
well as their dedication to their academic studies. See attachment on
the "Clases - informacion general" section of this website.
