any of your summer pictures so we can share the first days of school!
Miss you all and excited to see you soooooooooooon! Ms. Guerra If you want to chaperone or volunteer at our school/classroom, make sure you complete the application at the website below. You must apply every year to volunteer. Thanks for all the wonderful parents that make our school and my class so wonderful! You may apply at www.getinvolvedineducation.com
Dear Parents, WELCOME! We are headed for an exciting year! Here
are a few routines and procedures that help our class run smoothly. 1. Be in class and ready to go by 8:00 a.m. 2. Have a water bottle for drinking in the classroom.
(Research shows a well hydrated
brain increases learning!) 3. Special classes are every
other day at 10:35-11:15 which
include Art, PE, and Music.
4. Lunch time is at:
11:38-12:08 for Ms. Guerra’s class
11:42 – 12:12 for Mr. Turk’s class.
You may wish to pack a
healthy morning snack for your child. No cookies or sugary snacks please. 5. Dismissal is at 2:00 pm. Please be sure
your child and child’s teacher knows how your child goes home: Davie aftercare,
walker, bike rider, car rider, or private aftercare (Lil’ Rascals etc.).
A written note is required if your child is going home in a different manner
than usual. 6. Check our class website
regularly for announcements, schedules, homework and more. www.MsGuerra.com CLASS RULES 1. STAY IN YOUR SEAT AND RAISE
YOUR HAND TO SPEAK. 2. LISTEN AND FOLLOW
DIRECTIONS THE FIRST TIME. 3. RESPECT PROPERTY AND RIGHTS
OF OTHERS. 4. BE POSITIVE. Discipline Procedures Everyone starts on color green each day. If a student
breaks a rule they will be given one warning. If the student continues or
breaks another rule, they will have their color changed to yellow. If the
pattern continues, their color changes to red and we will notify the parents to
discuss further action. You will find a behavior calendar in your child’s
folder. Each day there will be a color noted on the calendar informing
parents what color/behavior their child earned that day. The calendar is
to remain in the folder. Consequences for color
changes are: -Time out -Teacher/Student conference -Parent /Teacher conference If your child stays on green they are on their way to FUN
FRIDAY! There must be three greens per week noted on the calendar and
completed homework to participate in Fun Friday activities which consists of:
extra recess, movie time, popcorn celebration, and lots more! No reds are permitted for fun Friday. Homework Third graders have homework every night. The homework
folder will come and go daily as a form of communication for the
parents/teachers and it is also for important papers and notices to go
home. Parents must sign the homework planner every day for a student to
remain on green. Students must have their homework and their
planner signed in order to avoid a color change. This year we are excited about using a rotating strategy that
will maximize student achievement.
Mr. Turk will be instructing our students in Reading and Writing. Ms. Guerra will be instructing our
students in Math and Science.
Social Studies will be instructed cooperatively. Our students will benefit greatly in experiencing multiple teaching and learning
techniques. We look forward to working together to attain rewarding points
and a rewarding school year! Ms. Guerra and Mr.
Turk
Updated letter coming soon for the year 2011-2012!
Be sure to check out the PODCAST created by last year's classmates. Our students used Garageband to record reading their writing pieces. Then they added music of their choice to accompany their piece. Last they researched pictures downloaded them into iphoto and synchronized the pictures to go with their piece to create the podcast. We hope you enjoy listening to these techy 2nd graders! Parents can volunteer at our school or field trips after the application for volunteering has been cleared.
