Hello,
Welcome to our interactive online classroom! My name is Elmo Sanchez, Jr. I
teach fourth and fifth grade Reading, Language Arts, and Social Studies
gifted classes at Flamingo Elementary. I obtained both my Undergraduate and
Master's Degree from Barry University in Miami Shores,Florida. I have a
Master’s Degree in Educational Computing and Application, an Undergraduate
Degree in Elementary Education, an Endorsement Degree in E.S.O.L. (English
Speakers of Another Language), and an Endorsement Degree in Gifted Studies.
I'm well versed in technology and I'm the school's current webmaster. I
enjoy reading historical fiction books and spending time with my family and
friends.
I believe wholeheartedly in my profession and believe my students are
entitled to the best education possible, this means a teacher who’s
knowledgeable in their subject area coupled with a classroom environment
conducive to learning. As a gifted teacher, I also set high obtainable
expectations for all of my students. I expect for all of my students to meet
those expectations throughout the school year through hard work and
perseverance. I know and beleive that all of my students will succeed if
they remain focused and strive toward academic excellence. Here's to a
fantastic school year!
As a teacher I feel I have a moral obligation to help the children in my
classroom grow toward becoming full human beings and to feel successful.
Teaching cognitive skills is not enough...

Our overall theme this year for the gifted class is “Mission In Progress.”
All students in my class will embark on a daily mission of exploration and
learning. Our theme will support the standards for our gifted program.
My mission for the 2011-2012 school year is to help my students become
efficient readers while learning the importance of language arts and social
studies skills. In essence, the goal of our class is to equip students with
skills and strategies to become independent readers, writers, and
historians. Through hands-on activities as well as active learning, students
will learn essential learning skills that are aimed at promoting life-long
readers, writers, and keepers of past history.
Throughout the school year our fifth grade class will work on making the
transition from elementary school to middle school. The transition will help
students strive in the middle school environment. The skills taught in our
class will prepare students for the F.C.A.T., as well as their middle school
academic careers.
