Homework is an integral part of a student's learning experience. To derive the
greatest benefit from school, students must finish related study and follow-up
at home. It is important that parents help establish a homework routine with
their children, by determining a regular time and place free from distractions
and give priority to homework as an out of school activity. Parents should
bear in mind that the speed or willingness with which a child tackles homework
is sometimes a function of more than just the child's interest, aptitude, or
maturity. Other factors include how well rested the child is, the length of
the child's day away from home, and how much of the child's time out of school
is already structured.
Students should use their green Garden Elementary folder to carry homework to
and from school. Students will record homework daily in his or her agenda.
Students should try to complete their homework independently, but should ask
their teachers and parents for assistance after they have "tried" it on their own.
Homework will be assigned every night including some weekends. Most nights,
homework will consist of a Language Arts assignment and/or a math assignment.
Students should spend AT LEAST 20 minutes per night reading. This includes the
weekly Carbo passage and media book.
