FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
  1. Do I need to keep a notebook for science?
  2. Do we dissect in biology?
  3. When are the science tests?
  4. How can I know if I am doing well in class and have a good grade?

Do I need to keep a notebook for science?

We keep a looseleaf notebook for the entire year. Never throw any
assignment of notes away, even after the first quarter or first semester.
Be sure to have dividers in the notebook which are labeled as follows:
NOTES, HW/QUIZ, TESTS, LABS.
Each time that I hand back a paper to you, place it immediately into your
notebook in the appropriate section. Notebooks are taken up for a grade
each quarter. Your notebook grade is a TEST grade and will help your
cumulative grade average tremendously if you stay organized. You need a
notebook that is a 1 1/2 inch looseleaf three-ring binder. Thanks.

Do we dissect in biology?

We dissect in biology and anatomy usually starting in November or a little
later. If you desire to use gloves while dissecting, you must purchase a
box of gloves for dissection. I will keep them in the cabinet for you.
Please write your name on the box in sharpy. Thanks.

When are the science tests?

The day for science tests is usually on Thursday. We will have a test once
every two weeks, sometimes more often. It is imperative that you study
before Wednesday night. The best thing to study is your notes. If you take
good notes and then take those notes home on Tuesday night and study them,
then again on Wednesday night, you will probably do well on the tests.
Tests have a weight of 50%, homework a weight of 30% of the overall grade,
attendance is 10%, and attitude/participation has a weight of 10%. It is
very important to always come to class (unless you are truly ill and must be
at home) and very important to put forth your best effort by having homework
on time and studying for tests. Thanks.

How can I know if I am doing well in class and have a good grade?

You have access for the first time to your grades. This is a new feature
for both students and parents. I will be updating grades as I grade various
items and you will be able to see the grade and also your current average.
Please remember that attitude and attendance affect your grade in a big
way. Work hard and you will have good grades, learn a lot, and have a great
year. Thanks.
