What is your homework policy?

Homework is assigned daily, except on test dates. Students are required to
turn in completed homework at the beginning of class. Students who turn in
all homework assignments on time for the quarter receive two extra points on
the final average for that quarter.
Each student is allowed two late assignments without a penalty on the final
average. Any additional late homework will receive a penalty of 1 point
each from the final average for the quarter.
Late assignments may be turned in the following day without a grade
penalty. Each additional day an assignemnt is late will result in a 10%
deduction per day. After four days, a late assignment will receive a grade
of zero and cannot be made up.

How can my child get into an advanced math course?

An advanced math course is any math course that is at least one grade level
above the student's registered grade. For 7th grade, this would be Pre-
Algebra (an 8th Grade course), and for 8th Grade, this would be Algebra I (a
9th Grade course).
Students will be given an assessment at the end of each year. Students who
show skill mastery of 80% or higher will be considered eligible for an
advanced math course. Students must also have earned all As and Bs on their
report card in math for that year.

What are tutorials?

After school has dismissed, students may attend math tutorials for extra
practice in math concepts and skills. They may also use this time to work
on homework and have it checked for accuracy then make any corrections
necessary.

When are your math tutorials?

Math tutorials will take place from 2:55-3:25 P.M. For sixth grade, this
will be Tuesdays, and for Pre-Algebra, this will be Thursdays. The other
days of the week, students are welcome to come do their homework and have it
checked. PLEASE BE AWARE...THERE ARE NO TUTORIALS WITH MRS. NIGHTINGALE ON
AWAY OR EARLY VOLLEYBALL GAME DAYS!

What is the purpose of the math/history folder?

Folders are turned in on test days for a quiz grade. I look for neatness
and completeness (has all of the notes for the week/chapter in order). The
purpose is to motivate students to keep their notes, and then they have them
when it comes time to study for the test, rather than trying to reread a
whole chapter. Math students can look over steps and hints when reviewing
math concepts/problems.

What if a student does not have his/her laptop in class?

I will let students know in their homework assignments which days to bring
laptops to class. If a student has forgotten their computer or it is being
repaired, then they will be doing their assignment/activity by hand. They
may not share a laptop with another student unless it is a cooperative
learning activity.
