Step 3: Type in your email address
Step 4: Type in school code – 279827
Step 5: Type in school zip code – 33180
Step 6: click Sign In
Step 7: Look through the patterns and select one. Record pattern number
which is the bold number located to the right of the pattern picture.
Step 8: Click on Click for Details
Step 9: Scroll down and find Body Measurements. *Remember if it is a shirt
or dress use Bust/Chest size. Ladies: If it is a shorts, pants or skirt use
hip size. Gentlemen: for pants use waist size to determine pattern size
needed. Reference “Practicing Taking Measurements” handout that we did in
class.
Step 10: Remember pattern number and size is due Jan. 17th. Doing the break
please purchase fabric and thread for first project. NO OTHER NOTIONS ARE
NEEDED!
*Parents please DO NOT spend on more than a dollar per yard of fabric.

A Diversity Taste
8th/Family & Consumer Science
The students register in Life Skills will research, plan, and prepare a
cultural based function to raise the awareness of all cultures affecting
their community. Students will expand on the basic knowledge of a culture.
This includes their language, style of dress, food and musical influences,
historical expansion to the United States and their current standing
relating to today’s political and ethical issues. This function will be
open to the community to engage in during the winter holiday.
Students will understand that each culture has a unique quality that is
expressed through different methods. Student will also learn that the more
you know about ones culture, the better you are at providing services that
support their diversified community. Students will also gain a sense of
proud of ones own culture and begin to understand that diversity is what
makes you who you are.
Students will arrange a display board highlighting their research. Students
will then prepare an authentic dish using a recipes modified to serve at
least 50 people. Students are required to download music that reflects their
findings. They are also required to develop a pamphlet of the highlighted
information. Students are encouraged to learn a choreographed dance that
reflects the culture and present it to the audience. Students are required
to dress in the cultures appropriated attire for the function.

October 27th - November 2nd
Selection of culture to research and research begins. Students will record
important information regarding their selected culture. Evaluate their
findings and as a group finalize the data that is valid to their project.
Seek culture dress donations.
November 5th-9th
Student will begin to work on their display boards and their pamphlets
featuring highlighted data.
November 12-16th
Students will be required to finalize their costumers and make any
alterations needed.
November 19-23rd
Students will begin altering their recipes serving size to accommodate 50
people, prepare a grocery list and practice preparing the dish for easy
sampling and serving.
November 26-30th
Students will begin to finalize all projects required objectives and
choreograph a dance related to their culture.
December 3-5th
Students will copy, fold and assemble any items needed for their exhibition.

covered in class. Areas we will cover are Consumer Issues, Shopping Skills,

the end of this unit of study students would have learned and applied the
fundamentals of living independently and the importance of just having the

Students are asked to reframe from using any technological devises for 1
evening and focus on family fun. (Live in the Flintstones Era) Example:
Outdoor activities with younger siblings or a family talk with parents.
Parents are asked to assign agendas if the student was successful at
mastering task.
Overview of Objective: Students agreed that we are currently living the
Jetsons Era and feel that the Flintstones Era is must better because the era
focuses on family involvement and togetherness. Students also believed that
the Jetsons Era was too reliant on technology. So, I challenged them to
give up their technologic toys for a day!!!

Directions: For this activity you will need the listed items to complete the
assignment. Reminder the assignment is due Friday, August 24th. Using your
favorite color paper or newspaper cover the outside of the shoebox. On the
outside arrange words, pictures, colors and other items to represent how you
think others view you. On the inside of the box use pictures, words, colors
and other items to represent how you view yourself. Please, only put inside
the box items that truly represent you. Have fun!
