Hi! The second graders are a great group. They are eager to learn and even more eager to show off what they know!
We're going to start off the new school year learning how to create a cover page for reports. This assignment is chock full of computer skills. They'll learn about borders, how to import photos, font size, color and type. They'll also learn how to surf the web looking for cool facts to put in their reports. They're doing a report on the okapi.
On Mondays we only have a half hour so we just have time to do our Spelling City and sometimes a little typing. Then on Tuesdays and Thursdays we have an hour and that's when we really get to go to town on our computer skills and Internet research. They look up facts on the Internet and import them to their Word document report. I make sure they learn to put the information into their own words - so we're learning about plagiarism as soon as possible!
Every other Thursday we have Book Buddies and we take the PKI children to the Reading Garden and read to them - they take this very seriously.
