30 de enero
All middle school classes will be learning a new song from Senor Wooly
entitled "Odio la Clase de Espanol" (I Hate Spanish Class). We will discuss
the meaning of the lyrics and talk about other things students "hate." Please
see the documentos page for the lyrics to the song.
6th Grade will continue to work on Unidad 5 and 6. We will be making mini
weather books and completing the workbook pages for these units. We will not
have a quiz this week.
7th Grade will begin Unidad 5 in the Que Tal? text which deals with the
furnishings in the home as well as some prepositional phrases to use with the
verb ESTAR. We will have a vocab quiz on Friday, Feb. 3.
8th Grade will continue to work with regular -AR verb conjugations and we will
introduce some new -ER verbs and their conjugations. We will have a Quiz on
Friday, Feb. 3 covering the conjugations of these verbs.

6th Grade: We will begin work on Unidad 5 and 6 in the Hola! text, which
covers the weather, seasons, months, telling the date, talking about what you
like to do (the verb GUSTAR), and some new -AR verbs. We will have a vocab.
quiz on Friday, Jan. 27
7th Grade: We will continue Unidad 4 of the Que Tal? text which covers the
inside and outside of the house, subject pronouns, and the verb ESTAR (to be).
We will have a TEST over this unit on Thursday, Jan. 26.
8th Grade: we will begin Unidad 5 and 6 in the Spanish is Fun text (students
will get a packet for these units), which covers conjugation of regular -AR
verbs, asking questions, making negative statements, and using numbers. We
will have a vocab. QUIZ on Friday, Jan. 27

6th grade: TEST over Hola! Unidad 4:En la Escuela, on Thursday, Jan. 19
7th grade: QUIZ over Que Tal? Unidad 4: La Casa, the inside of the house and
the verb ESTAR (to be) on Friday, Jan. 20

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great holiday break.
This week 6th grade will begin Unidad 4 in the Hola text. This chapter covers
school subjects, some verbs for things we in school, and using IR + a +
infinitive to talk about what we are going to do.
7th grade will begin Unidad 4 in the Que Tal text. This chapter covers parts
of the house, the verbs estar (to be) and tener (to have), and the
prepositions dentro (inside) and fuera (outside).
8th grade will continue to discuss school subjects. We will talk about items
and people in the school, as well as definite and indefinite articles (el, la,
los, las, un, una, unos, unas).
All middle school classes have a vocab. quiz on Friday, Jan. 6. As always,

For the next two weeks all middle school classes will be discussing Navidad
(Christmas). We will talk about the vocabulary associated with the holiday,
learn some Spanish Cristmas carols, and discuss several holiday traditions in
different parts of the Spanish-speaking world. There will be a vocabulary test
on Friday, December 9 for all classes, Please check the vocabulario pages for
a list of words.

13 de noviembre
This week 6th grade will continue to work on Unidad 3 (calendar terms and
talking about going places). There is a vocabulary quiz on Thursday, November 17.
7th Grade will continue Unidad 3 (describing people). This week we will cover
how to make comparisons. There will be a TEST on Thursday, November 17.
8th Grade will be talking about telling time, class subjects and schedules,
and describing classes. There will be a vocabulary quiz on Thursday, November 17.

6th grade will have a vocabulary quiz over the fairytale skits they performed
last week on Monday, November 7. We will begin Unidad 3 "Adonde Vas?" of the
Hola! text this week. The unit covers days of the week, calendar terms, the
verb IR (to go), and places in the school and community. Please check the
vocab.page for a list of words and grammar notes.
7th grade began Unidad 3 "Como Eres Tu?" in the Que Tal? text last week. The
unit covers adjectives for physical and personality descriptions, and the
verbs SER (to be) and TENER (to have). Friday, November 10. Please check the
vocab. page for a list of words and grammar notes.
8th grade will have a vocabulary quiz over their fairytale skits on Monday,
November 7. They must bring in the props for their skits on Tuesday and they
will perform the skits on Wednesday, November 9.
17 de octubre
For the next two weeks all middle school classes will be working on a Spanish
skit adapted from a popular fairy tale (such as Little Red Riding Hood or the
Three Little Pigs). Students will work in groups to translate and memorize the
script and to come up with appropriate costumes and props for their skit.The
skits will be performed on Wednesday and Thursday Oct. 26 and 27.

All middle school classes have a TEST on Thursday, Oct. 13. Please check the
vocabulario pages for updated grammar notes and the vocab. lists for each class.
6th grade: test will cover Hola! Unidad 2- the animals, shapes, colors, rules
for adjectives, and indefinite articles
7th grade: test will cover Que Tal? Unidad 2- the clothing, sizes, rules for
adjectives, the verb QUEDARSE (to fit)
8th grade: test will cover family members, the verb TENER (to have), telling
ages, and possessive adjectives

6th grade will continue with Unidad 2. This week we will practice describing
animals and read conversations using the animal, color, and shapes vocabulary.
7th grade will continue with Unidad 2. This week we will practice talking
about how clothes fit and read conversations using the clothing vocabulary and
the verb quedarse.
8th grade will continue to talk about the family. We will work on
conversations about the family using the verb tener and the possessive adjectives.
Their are no tests or quizzes this week. All middle school classes will have a
test on Thursday, Oct. 13

6th grade will begin Unidad 2 in the Hola! text. This unit covers animals,
colors, shapes, rules for adjectives, and indefinite articles. We will work on
our flash cards, grammar handouts, and vocab, illustrations this week.
7th grade will begin Unidad 2 in the Que Tal? text. This unit covers clothing,
talking about how clothes look, and the verb QUEDARSE (to fit). We will work
on our flash cards, grammar notes, and vocab. illustrations this week.
8th grade will begin to talk about La Familia. We will label the family tree,
talk about the verb TENER (to have) and use it to talk about our families and
their ages. We will also discuss possessive adjectives to talk about our
families. This week we will create our own family trees and use the verb tener
and possessive adjectives to write sentences about our families.
All middle school classes will have a vocab. quiz on Friday, September 30.
Turn in Notebooks on Friday as well.

6th grade will continue to work on Unidad 1 in the Hola! text. We will be
working with conversations using the school vocab. as well as doing some
listening activities.
7th grade will continue to work on Unidad 1 in the Que Tal? text. We will be
working with conversations using the body vocab and the verb DOLER (to hurt)
and doing some listening activities.
8th grade will continue to work with the verb SER (to be) and will be learning
about the countries of Latin America and how to talk about someone's nationality.
All middle school classes will have a test on Thursday, September 22. Please
check your class vocab page for a list of words as well as grammar notes.
Notebooks will NOT be collected this week.

6th grade will be working on Unidad 1 of the Hola! text. The unit covers items
and people in the school, masculine and feminine nouns, definite articles, and
the rules for making words plural.
7th grade will be working on Unidad 1 of the Que Tal? text. The unit covers
the parts of the body, telling someone that you or someone else is hurt, and
making words plural.
8th grade will be learning vocabulary to describe people, the rules for using
adjectives and the verb SER (to be).
All middle school classes will have a vocabulary QUIZ on Friday, September 16.
Notebooks will be turned in on Friday as well. Please check your class vocab.
page for specific word lists.

This coming week students in 6th and 7th grade will receive their textbooks.
Please make sure students have a cover for their book.We will begin Unidad 1
in the text for both classes.
8th grade will not have a textbook but I will be using several books for
reference. Our next unit of study will be an overview of greetings, days of
the week, telling the date and time, courtesy, weather and seasons before we
get into more complicated grammar concepts.
Please refer to the vocabulary pages for each middle school class for specific
words,
Elementary classes will be working on a "Todo Sobre Mi" (All about me)Project
in their composition books. If you still have not brought in the composition
books, please do so.

Bienvenidos a los estudiantes y los padres!
I hope everyone enjoyed their vacaciones de verano and is ready for another
fabulous year of language learning at JRA!
For the first couple of weeks all classes will be reviewing some basics that
may have been forgotten over the break. This includes the alfabeto,
pronunciation, greetings and getting to know you, and classroom language.
Please check the Vocabulario pages for more specific information.
All children in grades 1st through 8th are required to have a composition book
for Spanish class this year. We will be doing lap booking in the younger
grades and interactive notebooks in middle school. Please try to have these in
by Wednesday of the first week.
