NEW 2008 CLASSES

JULY 2008

==If you have not given me a copy of the 5-page information sheet, you may download it (first item under the AP LANGUAGE DOWNLOADS ICON). Please mail it to me by US MAIL (address is in the phone book) or send it as an e-mail attachment, rich text.

--AP   LANGUAGE  & AP LIT INFORMATION  WILL BE POSTED ON THE DESIGNATED PAGES.

*** AP  Language still will have the 3 books to read over the summer: Their Eyes Were Watching God, The Scarlet Letter, and The Grapes of Wrath. (If you had Mrs. Fite for pre-AP  English II, you already covered GOW, and your work will be simply a review!). In the spring, we also will cover 1984 and Brave New World, so it would be helpful if you read these in advance too. All our other work in AP  English Language will come from factual prose--articles, columns, essays, etc. It is NOT a literature course. The focus is on close reading of factual writing and effective writing about what you have read--or writing to persuade others. (See the FAQ page about exam formats!!)

We still will have extensive grammar and vocabulary study in preparation for not only AP, but also for the fall PSAT and future SAT. What you need may be found at the download sites on this site or at the APE page below: If grammar is a weakness, look on the links pages for all sorts of interactive, helpful sites.

.

*** Please read the page on grades and supplies. The course expectations are all the same.

Although the page above opens at the ALLUSION section, you can click around on other pages. Between this site and the one above, you will see the breadth and scope of what we will be doing in AP English Language.

MY  ADVICE for college preparation:

 .

Start looking now for essay opportunities to earn scholarship money. In a short time many of you will be applying for college--or will be seriously awaiting acceptance. Over the summer and next year, get busy and be impressive in all that you do. Nurture your adult relationships, do community service, and hunt the options. A distinctive life choice lies straight ahead!
