Ryan got his GOLD!

Ryan was the first Lakeview student to ever earn the GOLD stripe on his recorder. He played solos on his soprano and his alto recorders at the Spring Concerts. We are very proud of him!

Since then, other Lakeview students have earned their gold stripes.

This year's HOLIDAY CONCERTS were Dec. 17th, at 8:45 and 9:30 a.m. at the school, and 7:00 p.m. at Sarasota Baptist Church on Proctor Rd. across from the school. The Advanced Recorder Ensemble will perform along with the Lakeview Chorus and Violin Ensembles at the Spring Concert on May 21st.

We thank Sarasota Baptist Church for sharing their auditorium
with us for our families to come and see what our students have been learning.

We are so very proud of all of our students for the effort they have made and their willingness to share it with the rest of us.

Last year's third graders progressed amazingly, and they are
eager for more opportunities.

If your child passed the BLUE STRIPE during the first semester,
s/he was invited to join the Advanced Recorder Ensemble and play in the Lakeview concerts.

The group rehearses on Fridays after school, from 3:00-4:15. Students who join this group must be willing to do the following.

Attend all rehearsals/performances
unless they have an emergency.

Practice advanced music at home.

Behave appropriately during
rehearsals and performances.

Have a ride home on Fridays
or go to the After-Care Program.

Students in this group practice music to play together on stage at
concerts that we have at school and in the community.

The performers depend on each other to be present and know their parts so the group's sound will be balanced and well blended.

If you have questions that aren't answered here or in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) part of this site, please email the music teacher at karen_johns@sarasota.k12.fl.us .

All third graders study recorder in general music classes. They earn stripes as they learn more difficult music. All of the stripes are listed in the FAQ section of this site. This system was developed by Mrs. Johns about fifteen years ago and has benefited her students' motivation through the years.

Recorder solos

Students can earn solo stripes for playing alone in front of the other students in their classes. They don't have to do this. They choose to do this because they enjoy seeing the colorful stripes added to their instruments and because they enjoy seeing their progress.

Mentoring

Students can also earn stripes by helping others learn. There are required stripes and optional ones. To see the list of all of the available stripes, check out the FAQ section of this site.

GREAT OPPORTUNITIES

MUSIC IS A PERFORMING ART, AND LAKEVIEW'S STUDENTS PERFORM ON MANY STAGES!
