Ryan got his GOLD!

Ryan was the first Lakeview student to ever earn the GOLD stripe on his recorder. He played solos on his soprano and his alto recorders at the Spring Concerts. We are very proud of him!

Since then, other Lakeview students have now earned their gold stripes. Mikaela Michalik was the first to earn her gold stripe last year. We are very proud of her. No one has earned one yet this year.

This year's SPRING CONCERT will be Thursday, May 20, at 8:45 and 9:30 a.m. at the school, and 7:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church on east Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota. The Advanced Recorder Ensemble will perform along with the Lakeview Chorus and Violin Ensemble.

We thank Grace Baptist Church for sharing their auditorium
with us for our families to come and see what our students have been learning.

We are so very proud of all of our students for the effort they have made and their willingness to share it with the rest of us.

This year's third graders have progressed far and they are eager
for more opportunities.

If your child passes the BLUE STRIPE during the first semester,
s/he has been invited to join the Advanced Recorder Ensemble and play in the Lakeview concerts.

The group will rehearse on Fridays after school, from 3:00-4:00, beginning Jan. 15th. Students who join this group must be willing to do the following.

Attend all rehearsals/performances
unless they have an emergency.

Practice advanced music at home.

Behave appropriately during
rehearsals and performances.

Have a ride home on Fridays at
4:00 or go to the After-Care Program.

Students in this group practice music to play together on stage at
concerts that we have at school and in the community. At performances, they wear clothes appropriate for the stage: black from the waist down and white from the waist up.

They depend on each other to be present and know their parts so the group's sound will be balanced and well blended. If your child is afraid to go on stage, this is not the group for him/her. Music is a performing art, and this group will be performing on several stages - maybe even at Disney in May.

If you have questions that aren't answered here or in the Frequently Asked Questions part of this site, please email the music teacher at karen_johns@sarasota.k12.fl.us .

All third graders study recorder in general music classes. They earn stripes as they learn more difficult music. All of the stripes are listed in the FAQ section of this site.

Recorder solos

Students can earn solo stripes for playing alone in front of the other students in their classes.

Mentoring

Students can earn stripes by helping others learn. There are required stripes and optional ones. To see the list of all of the available stripes, check out the FAQ section of this site.

GREAT OPPORTUNITIES

This year's Advanced Recorder Ensemble will audition along with the Chorus and Violin Ensemble to perform at Disney in the May as our ensembles have done in the past. They will be awesome!

We will need some parent volunteers to make this happen. Please email the music teacher if you will be able to help us work toward this event.

Also, Mrs. Johns needs two parent volunteers to help her get the children safely into their parents' cars on Fridays at 4. It should only take about five minutes. Pls email her if you can help with this sometimes or all of the time. Thanks again!
