Keep Your Behavior
Sunny Side Up!
Here is a picture of my behavior wall!
In order to give everyone
an equal opportunity to succeed and enjoy learning, it is necessary for me to
have a classroom discipline plan. My plan consists of rules, consequences for
misbehavior, and rewards for positive behavior.
Our Classroom Rules:
1. Be respectful to
yourself, others, and school property.
2. Be responsible and make
good choices.
Discipline problems can be
a roadblock to effective teaching and learning. Therefore, discipline problems
that should arise will be handled accordingly in my classroom:
(Please note that a verbal
warning/reminder will be given to your child BEFORE following through with
these consequences. Students also write their number on the board as a visual
reminder when receiving a warning.)

written and kept on file in the office).

(Please note
that serious offenses such as fighting, hitting, blatant disrespect, use of
inappropriate language, etc. will warrant an automatic office referral.)
Please be sure to check
your child's H.O.B.O. book for the monthly behavior calendar. If there is a
problem in school, I will mark the appropriate behavior codes on your child's
calendar. Please initial the calendar daily (even if your child had a 'sunny'
day.) Thank you for your help in this matter.
The following are
rewards that I use in my classroom for students who display appropriate
behavior. I reward students individually, in small groups, and as a whole
class.
Individual Rewards
1. HOBO Within - "HOBO
Within" is
a school-wide behavior program for grades Pre-12. Students who are 'Caught
Being Good' at school receive HOBO Within tickets. The tickets are placed in a
jar for the weekly raffle on Friday. Two tickets (1 for elementary and 1 for
secondary) are picked each week and prizes are awarded to those students.
2.
Student of the Month - One student will be selected each month to eat a
special treat with Principal Sexton. A special certificate will be awarded to
the Student of the Month.
3. Weekly Sunny Awards - Small
award each Friday for all students who had "sunny" behavior ALL
week long! Awards include trips to Mrs. Vensko's treasure chest or treat jar!
4.
Friday Free Choice Time - Each Friday, students with exceptional
classroom behavior will be rewarded with free choice activity time. Thirty
(30) minutes will be allowed at the end of the day on Fridays to choose a
favorite classroom activity such as writing on the board, computers,
GeoSafari, board games, math stations, etc.
Group Rewards:
1. Gumball Machine
- A gumball is added to our gumball machine display when the class as a whole
is complimented on excellent behavior or work habits inside and outside of the
classroom. When the machine is full (31 gumballs total), a class treat is
voted on such as popcorn party & movie, ice cream floats, extra recess, etc.
2.
Table Teamwork
- Students sit in groups of 5-6 students. Groups will earn a tally point on
the board each time ALL students in that group are on task and working
together as a team. I call this 'table teamwork'. Weekly table captains are in
charge of putting the points on the board and encouraging all group members to
work together. The group with the most tally points at the end of the week
will earn a trip to the treasure box or treat jar!!
