When I was in 6th grade, at the height of the "Baby Boom," classes were very
large. Nonetheless Sr. Ann made every day interesting. We marched to
class accompanied by Sousa tunes and sang a hymn to begin each day. Among
other things, I learned that Ulan Bator is the capital of Outer Mongolia and
that Charlemagne was Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. We complained because
all answers had to be written in complete sentences. Not only did we have to
write sentences, then we had to diagram them! "Why oh why do we have to know
so much about grammar?" we moaned. Sr. Ann just smiled.
I guess I was destined to be an English/social studies teacher from an early
age.
A love for life-long learning, of course! Be curious! Read! Inquire! Then
read some more! Live a life of service in the grace of God!
