Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common
questions of students and parents.
  1. What is your homework policy?
  2. What is your behavior management system?

What is your homework policy?

Students in second grade will have daily homework. Each day they
will write down their homework on a special Homework Assignment
sheet which will be kept in the FROGS Notebook. It will usually
say which subject and which page to complete. The regular
homework over the course of the week is spelling (this helps to
prepare for Friday’s spelling test) and math (which is a follow-up
to the lesson taught that day). Reading for 15 minutes everyday is
also part of your child’s homework. Weekend homework varies, so
remember to check the Homework Assignemt Form. The first thing
your child will do in the morning is turn in their homework. If
your child’s homework is complete then this will help him/her
start the day off in a positive, rewarding manner. If your child
does not complete homework please send the books/papers back to
school. He/she may have the opportunity to complete it at
school.

What is your behavior management system?

My behavior system this year consists of a traffic light with the
three signals: Green (GO!), yellow (WAIT!), and red (STOP!). The
children can stay on green if good behavior is exhibited all
day. If a child breaks a class rule, their clothespin will be
moved from green to yellow. When this happens, they lose five
minutes at recess. If inappropriate behavior continues, their
clothespin will then move to red which means that they will be
sent to the office. There may be a phone call or note that goes
home. Each of the traffic light colors is worth points (green – 5,
yellow – 2, and red – 0). At the end of each day the children
will be recording their points on special slips of paper. The
points are tallied and then converted into money and the children
can go shopping in my classroom store. So there are many
incentives for the children to be on their best behavior.
