Mon. Aug. 29
This week we are reading the story, The Little School Bus. We are learning the meaning of ordinal numbers, first, second, third, fourth, fifth, & sixth. We are reviewing the letters, Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, & Ee.
In Math, we are practicing counting sets of 1-5 objects.
In Social Studies, we talked about the beginning of school and the Pedge of Allegiance.
When doing homework with your child, please try to make sure that your child is forming letters and numbers the proper way.

Tues. Aug. 30
Today we reread the story, The Little School Bus, and talked about rhyming words. We practiced writing upper and lower case Bb and we wrote sentences in our journals using the words, I, am, and a.
In math, we are focusing on the numbers, 0,1, & 2, as we make sets and count those numbers.
We had p.e. for the first time. It was great fun!

Wed. Aug. 31
Today we practiced writing upper and lower case Cc and worked in our reading workbook.
In Math, we used connecting cubes and our workbooks to make sets of 1 and 2.
For Religion, we learned about how the Bible is a special book about the stories of God. We are learning a new song about the bible.




Mon. Sept. 12
Well, I'm back online and hopefully will be able to post something every day.
This week we are reading a story called, Plaidypus, about a little girl who has a plaid platypus which was hand-made by her grandmother. The story teaches that we should take care of our things. We are reviewing letters, Oo, Pp, Qq, Rs, Ss, & Tt. We have two new words this week, the & little.
In Math we are learning to write and count quantities of 3 & 4.
In Social Studies, we talked about maps and our State of Fl. We located Key West and Orlando on a map.

Homework went home today. I would like to ask that you please have your child do all writing with a pencil. In class, we are only allowed to use crayons or markers for coloring and I would like to follow through with that at home. Please do only the assigned pages in the math workbook.

We are in need of a small, low table for the center room that we could put the doll house or train set on. An old coffee table would work great. We are also looking for dress-up clothes for our housekeeping center. Old prom dresses, men's ties or coats, high heeled shoes, etc. are great!

Tues. Sept. 13
This week we are working in small groups. There are five activities and the children rotate around from one to another. We have a listening station, creative station, independent seat work, abc games and puzzles, and a "work with the teacher" station. The children seem to enjoy it and it gives me the opportunity to work with small groups of children at a time.
The children enjoyed P.E. in the gym.

Wed. Sept. 14
Today we continued our work in small groups. We practiced writing /Qq/ and /Rr/ and our H/F words I, am , the, & little. We worked on writing and counting the numbers 3 & 4.
We had early release today so it was a short day.

Thurs. Sept. 15
Today we worked in small groups again. We finished up our work from Wed. and began making our own Plaidypus puppet.
We practiced writing and counting 5.
In science, we finished our lessons on the five senses.

Fri. Sept. 16
We began our day with Mass. After Mass, we wrote in our journals and practiced our H/F words, I, am, the, & little. We finished our puppets.
We continued our lessons on the number 5.
In the afternoon, we celebrated Kimberly's birthday with cake and icecream.


Mon. Sept. 19
This week we are reading a story called, Miss Bindergarten Goes On a Field Trip With Kindergarten. We are learning about different things which make up a community , such as a fire station, post office, etc.
We are reviewing the letters, Tt,Uu, Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy, & Zz and the words the, and little.
In Math, we are learning to write 5 and count 5 objects.
In Social Studies, we are learning about why it is important to have rules.

Tues. Sept. 20
Today we praticed writting /Tt/ & /Uu/ and worked on our cutting skills.
We did a fun activity in math using chocolate chips as counters. In the end, we got to eat our counters!
In Social Studies, we talked about responsibilities and how we all have things that we are responsible for doing.
We had a fun time in P.E. with Ms. Rachel.

Wed. Sept. 21
Today we practiced writing the letters /Rr/ & /Ss/. We cut and pasted words together to make the sentence, I am the little cat, and we worked in small groups with Mrs. Jones in our phonics workbooks.
In Math, we practiced writing 3, 4, & 5.

Thurs. Sept. 22
Today we copied a story from the board to practice handwriting and our H/F words, I , am, the, a, & little. We also did some pages in our workbook.
In math, we did several pages in our workbook, practicing counting and drawing groups of 1-5 objects.
In Religion, we talked about how we take care of God's creation.
In science, we learned about tools that we can use to examine and compare objects, such as rulers, scales, magnifying glasses, etc. We used a balance scale to compare different items found in our classroom.
We had art class with Mrs. LaRe.

Mon. Sept. 26
This week we are reading the story, Julius, which is about a make believe pig who is given to a little girl by her grandfather. Julius, the pig, teaches Maya how to be silly and fun and Maya teaches him how to behave and stay out of trouble.
We are learning all about /Mm/, how to write it and it's sound at the beginning and end of words.
Our new H/F words are to & a.
In math we practiced counting to 100.

Tues. Sept. 27
Today we reread the story of Julius and talked about the characters in the story. We worked on the sound of /m/ at the beginning of words and practiced writing /m/.
In math, we are learning about the concept of zero.
We had P.E. with Ms. Rachael and we celebrated Kornelia's birthday. We also had a good-bye party for Ally who is moving to Minnesota. We will miss her very much!

Wed. Sept. 28
Today we reviewed the story of Julius and read two other books as well, If You Take a Mouse To School, and Moosetache. These were funny stories and we listened for /m/ words.
We practiced correcting sentences by putting in upper-case letters at the beginning and periods at the end.
We did "apple" math today. We weighed, measured, drew, and tasted apples. It was a lot of fun.
We want to thank Mrs. Olden for coming in to help.
We read the story of Noah's Ark and colored a rainbow.

Fri. Sept 30
We celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day and had a great time. We did apple printing, bobbed for apples on a string, made Johnny Appleseed puppets, and sponge painted apple trees. We had delicious apple snacks. Thank you to everyone who sent things in and a special thank you to the parents who came to help! Your help is greatly appreciated!!

Mon. Oct. 3
This week we are reading a book called, Dig, Dig, Digging and learning about how big machines help us. We are working on the sound of /t/ and how to write upper & lower case /Tt/. We are learning the H/F words, to and a.
In math, we are working on the number 0.

Tues.  Oct. 4
We reread the story, Dig, Dig, Digging, and the children chimed in on the repetitve parts of the story.  We did a cut and paste /t/ words, and practiced writing upper case /T/.     We also did a "daily fix-it" by putting an upper case letter at the beginning of the sentence and adding punctuation at the end.
We had p.e. with Ms. Rachael.
We made cute pumpkins for the outside bulletin board.

Wed. Oct. 5
Today we practiced fixing sentences by putting upercase letters at the beginning of the sentence and adding periods at the end.  We read sentences and reviewed the sounds of /m/ & /t/.
In math, we worked on the value of zero and practiced writing zero.

Thurs. Oct. 6
Today we wrote a story about a turtle named Tiny Tim.  We practiced rhyming words, wrote our high frequency words, and colored pictures that began with /t/.
In math, we did our chapter review on recognizing numbers and their values, 0 - 5.
For science, we are beginning a unit on living and non-living things.  We talked about the characteristics of living things.
We had art with Mrs. LaRe.

Mon.  Oct. 10
This week we are reading the story, Life In An Ocean, and talking about ocean environments.  Our new high frequency words are have, & is.  Our letter of the week is /a/.
Today we read the story and discussed it.  We did a cut & paste with /a/ words and practiced writing upper & lowercase a's.
In math, we took an end of Chap. 1 test and we played a game with dice by counting the dots and matching the numbers.

Tues. & Wed.  Oct. 11 & 12
We continued learning about the ocean and read a book called A House for a Hermit Crab and another called the ABC Ocean Book.   We even got to take out our class hermit crab for a closer look.  We practiced writing upper & lower case /Aa/ and worked on words beginning with /a/.
In math, we are working on one-to-one correspondence.
We made cute witches for our bulletin board.
On Tues. we had p.e. with Ms. Rachael and on Wed. we had early dismissal.

Thurs.  Oct. 13
Today we did an I Spy paper looking for our high frequency words and did a cut and paste using those words in a sentence.  We aslo worked on the  /at/, /an/, /ar/, and /all/ word families by writing words that end with those letters.
We continued our work on one-to-one matching in math.
In science, we talked about the characteristics of animals.

Mon.  Oct. 17
This week we are reading the book , Armadillo's Orange, which is about an armadillo who lives in an orange grove and all the animals he meets in the orange grove.  The letter of the week is /s/ and the high-frequency words are have & is.
Today we practiced writing upper & lower case /s/ and did a cut and paste activity finding pictures of things that begin with /s/.
In math, we are working on counting and making equal sets of objects up to 5.
In Social Studies, we talked about history and what it means.
We are preparing for our Mass this Fri.  Please help your child learn their parts.

Tues.  Oct. 18
Today we reread the story, Armadillo's Orange and talked about the sequence of events in the story.  We practiced sounding out words that begin with /s/.  We cut and pasted words together to make sentences and colored pictures of things that begin with /s/.
In math, we continued our work on one-to-one matching of sets up to 5.
We went over to the church to practice for Mass.  The children are very excited about their parts.  Please practice at home.
We had p.e. with Ms. Rachael.

Thurs.  Oct. 20
Today we worked in small groups with five different activities: journals, listening, seat work, alphabet games, & teacher table.  The children really enjoy small group activities and it gives me a chance to work with each group individually.
We went to church to practice for Mass. The children are doing a good job.

Mon. Oct. 24 - Fri. Oct. 28
This week we did lots of fun Halloween activities, such as, writing Halloween words, reading Halloween stories, and making Halloween crafts.
We went to the Pumpkin Patch and had a great time.
The week ended on Friday with a costume parade, fun games and activities, and early dismissal.



Mon. Oct. 31
Last week, we went off of our regular schedule to do some fun Halloween activities.  This week, we are getting back to our routine and will be working on the letter /Pp/.
We are reading the story, Animal Babies in the Grasslands, and learning about animals that live in the grasslands.  We worked on the sound of /p/ at the beginnng of words.
In math, we are learning about making sets with one fewer object and one more object than a given set.
We learned about All Saints Day and read about St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. Francis.

Tues.  Nov. 1
We started our day attending All Saints Day Mass.  When we returned to school, we had a special p.e. class with Mrs. Weber.  It was great fun.
We worked in our reading workbook, catching up on some of the pages we missed last week.
In Math, we set up our new calendar for November and colored and graphed shapes.

Wed. Nov.2
We reread the story, Animal Babies in Grasslands, and worked on the sound of /p/ at the beginning of words.  We did a cut & paste with /p/ words and practiced writing upper & lowercase Pp.
In math, we are working on making a set of objects and then making a second set with one fewer or one more object than the first set.
In Social Studies, we learned about communication.  We talked about different ways that we can communicate including cell phones, computers, letters, sign language, etc.

Thurs.  Nov. 3
Today we read two animal stories.  One was a book with life-sized pictures of animals and the other was about kangaroos.  We worked on the sound of /p/ at the beginning of words and wrote short words beginning with /p/, such as pat, pet, pig, etc.
In math we continue to work on making sets with fewer and more objects.
In science we did a lesson on telling the difference between real and make-believe animals and plants.
We had art with Mrs. LaRe.

Mon. Nov. 7
This week we are reading the story, The Bear Snores On, and working on the sound of c which is the /k/ sound.  We are learnng about hibernation and winter.
Today we did small groups with journal writing, alphabet games, listening, and seatwork.
For math, we counted sets of bears and wrote the correct number.
We read a book about Thanksgiving and colored pilgrims and Native Americans.

Tues. Nov. 8
We reread the story, The Bear Snores On, and listened for rhyming words.  We listened for the sound of /p/ in the beginning, middle, and end of words.
For math, we continued to work on making sets of fewer and more objects than a given set.
For science, we talked about things that are real and make-believe.
We had P.E. with Mrs. Rachael.


Mon. Nov. 14
This week we are reading the story, A Home For the Winter, about a little mouse looking for a home for the winter.  We are learning the sound of /i/ and how to write upper & lower case Ii.
In math, we are working on number order 1-5.
We are also working on Thannksgiving projects.

Today we read the story, A Home For the Winter again and discussed the details of the story.  We worked on writing upper & lower case Ii and deciding which pictures begin with an /i/.
We did a Thanksgiving lesson and read a letter from a Pilgrim girl.
We had P.E. with Ms. Rachael.



Mon.  Nov. 28
Welcome back to school!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break!  I did!
This week we are reading the story, "Whose Garden Is It?", learning about gardens, and reviewing the letter /i/.  We are working on the words, he and for.
In math, we are working on putting sets and numbers into correct counting order, 1-5.
In Religion we learned that we are children of God and Jesus loves us very much!
We celebrated Adangelie's birthday with pizza and cupcakes.  A big  "thank you" goes to her family for providing us with such a special treat!

Tues.  Nov. 29
Today we reread the story, "Whose Garden Is It?" and another story called "The Big Seed".  We talked about how plants grow and what they need.  We worked on the sound of /i/ in the middle of words and opposites.
In math, we contined to work on ordering the numbers 1-5 and counting up to 60.
In Social Studies, we talked about where we live and discussed our addresses.  Please help your child to learn his/her address and a phone number.
We had P.E. with Ms. Rachael.

Today we worked on the sound of /i/ in the middle of words and the high frequency words, he & for.
In math, we are still working on ordering numbers 1 to 5.
