Physical Science
End of the Year Project
This project is 15% of your grade for the fourth marking period
This is an individual assignment.

With increasing global population growth and escalating demands on the
planet’s limited
resources, the world needs to find ways to design for zero waste, and reduce
and/or
eliminate the waste left at the end of a product or a process’s full life
cycle. Current
practices pertaining to waste are not sustainable from economic, societal,
cultural, and
environmental perspectives, damaging the planet and its populations.

1.	Title: Choose a title for your project
Example: Minimizing waste products at home

2.	Problem Statement; How can I reduce the amount of waste products at
home/office/ church/community/ school? (Choose one setting)
3.	Variables:
Independent:
Dependent:
Constants:

4.	Hypothesis:

5.	Collect your data; Create a chart or a log in which every day for
minimum five days you and members of your family or friend collect the
following information: Record all waste product generated in your chosen
setting (home, community, church, office) , the amount, and the method used
to be disposed (recycle, donation, landfill).

6.	Analyze your data: Make one or two bar graphs with your data. Explain
in one paragraph what you see in both your data table and your chart.

7.	Make a plan to reduce the amount of waste , you would try to aim for
a plan that lead to zero waste solutions, waste elimination, and waste
transformation, as well as waste reduction-focused education, business, and
financial strategies that have the potential to reduce and/or eliminate waste
at a household.

The ultimate goal is a sustainable future for planet Earth and its
inhabitants.
Take in consideration the waste hierarchy pyramid when you design and make
your plan.
Explain step by step how are you going to implement your plan in the setting
that you chose and who will be the people involved in the project as well as
when would you be able to implement it.

8.	Conclusion
Write a conclusion: Use the format previously approved by the teacher. (See
Ms. Vega’s webpage for information)

EVALUATION CRITERIA - Rubric

1.	Complete and appropriate title (1 point)
2.	Complete and appropriate problem statement ( 2 points)

information (10 points)
6.	Data Analysis: Make a graph, including independent and dependent
variables. (5 points)
7.	Data Analysis: Explain the behavior of the graph in term of the
variables (3 points)
8.	Make a plan: Focus the plan on the hierarchy waste pyramid, explain
in detail your plan, list the changes that you are going to implement,
explain who will participate in your project (family members, and friends),

will impact financial in the chosen setting, identify economic opportunities.
(15 points)

Optional Project

If you did not do your science project or you want to improve your Science
Project grade, Here there is an opportunity for you.
You are able to choose one of the following science projects and it will help
you to improve your grade if you complete properly all the required work.

1. Read carefully the list of proposed projects. You can research information
regarding a particular project.
2. Choose a project.
3. Write a science lab report using the format assigned by your teacher. The
lab report includes title, background information, hypothesis, variables, data
table, graphs, properly label of variables, analysis, and a three-paragraphs
conclusion using assigned format.
The lab report has to be typed, and neat. A project without the required
conclusion will not be accepted.
4. Develop a model:Design and build the model.
5. The project is due from 1/3/11 to 1/9/2012. No extensions will be granted
under any circumstances. The last day to turn in a complete project is
1/9/2012. This is an optional project.
6. This is an individual project, this is NOT a group project. Group projects
are not going to be accepted.

If you did not do your science project by October 2011 the highest grade you
could have in this current project is a "B" , but if you want to improve your
grade in the sciene project you turned in by October 2011, your highest
grade could be an "A" based on the quality of your project.
This project is 20% of your second marking period grade in science.
