How can I prepare my child for the SAT?

Reading passages followed by multiple choice answers is good
practice. Discuss how to go back and find the answer and
eliminate choices.
Finally, practice all math skills. Visit the Harcourt link (see
LINKS) to
access many helpful skill sheets.

How can I help my child with writing?

Give him or her topics to write about. Make sure s/he sticks to
the topic
and some things to look for :beginning, middle, and end, details,
conclusion
to the writing, and a title. Also, adding vivid verbs and a
variety of
adjectives will make the writing better. Try giving a topic to
write about at least 2 times a week.

What kinds of writing should my child be practicing at home?

We will be doing an extensive amount of writing in second grade.
The types
of writing will include but not be limited to narrative (a
story),
expository (to explain), persuasion, summaries, and poems.
Journal writing is also present on a daily basis and a home
journal is highly recommended.
