Spring Art Club for 3-8 grade
The roster for Spring Art club is now posted on the Art Info board. This spring we will be working as a group to create an animated film! We will meet during third and fourth quarter on Fridays from 3:30-4:30. The fee is $30 per quarter. There is still room in the club so if you are interested email Mrs. Workman ASAP.
Attention Fall Art Club students!
In an effort to finish our murals I would like all of those that can to continue to meet for art club on Mondays until we are done.
There will be no extra charge for these meetings. I just want us to finish our murals! J

A note about grades for 3-8 grade
No grades are final in my class until the end of the quarter, so students can complete or redo any work that they need to up until that point. mid quarter I will be conducting progress meetings with every 3-8 grade student during their art class time. At this meeting I will provide students with a hand-written itemized art progress report, tell them what they need to do to get an “A,” and if necessary, attach any make-up work that they need to complete. Also, art journal work can always be done at home on a blank sheet of paper and inserted into their journals when they come to class (the list will be on your art progress report and is also on the art class website – see the link in my signature). In addition, at the end of the quarter I will be hosting an open studio from 3:30-4:30 for students to come into the art room and complete any work that they need to before I finalize grades.
Grades in art are based almost entirely on participation and the completion of work. Put simply, if students do their assignments, they get an A. I will be collecting art folders for final grading mid January (there will be a specific date for your student on the art progress report). Students who were missing assignments on their progress reports are encouraged to complete them at home and bring them in to place in their art folders. Assignments that are marked with an “I” are things that we were still working on in class when folders were last checked, students should make sure that these things are in their art folders too. To students - Please complete all assignments! The exercises are carefully chosen to help you learn and grow. Let's make some art!
Families Create!
The next Families Create of the year will be on Thursday Feb. 16 from 5:30-7pm in the art room (room 42 upstairs).
During this event a student and a parent will work together to create a piece of art. The theme of the project will be Valentine's Day.
There will be a suggested donation of $7 per student/parent team for supplies (max group size is 15 student/parent teams).
Pre-registration is required - e-mail Mrs. Workman to sign up!
Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year!
As your art teacher, I would like to welcome you and your child to the start of a new school year at Imagine Schools – Nau Campus!
We are going to have a great year exploring and making art.
This year, as we make artworks, look at art history, discover world cultures, and reflect on personal experiences we will explore the following “Big Ideas” about art:
How does an artist see? What can an artist make art about? What is the language of art?
Throughout the school year I will be sharing information via the art class website. Check it out regularly! Bookmark it! It’s a great way to keep up to date on what is going on in art class!
I will also be posting student artwork on a fantastic website called Artsonia. You can check it out by going to the website above. In order to protect the privacy of all students, last names are never used on this site. If, however, for any reason you do not want your student’s art posted on Artsonia please contact me via e-mail or by sending a note in to your homeroom teacher.
During Fall semester I will be offering an art club after school on Mondays for grades 3-8. There will be $30 fee per quarter for this club. For those who are interested, a sign up sheet is available in the office. Those who have made it into the club will be notified via e-mail and a note home.
It is my belief that a complete art education program can help students better understand the world around them, foster creativity, encourage self-expression, build artistic skill, promote appreciation for cultures and other ways of thinking, and engage students in critical thinking. I look forward to working with you and your child this year!
Stay tuned for upcoming events!

In other news...
The list of those who have been accepted into the 2011-2012 Middle School art honors class is posted next to the art room door.
FYI... more students expressed interest in the class than I had seats available. If your student did not end up on the roster for Art Honors please do not take it as a value judgment of your student’s artistic ability. I simply can’t fit 30 students in my room at once J.
