Is there a special dress code for Drama class?
N0.
It is suggested that you wear comfortable clothing because there will be
movement activities in class. Also, we will at times sit on the stage
floor, so dress accordingly.
Will I have to perform or speak in front of the class?
YES.
Drama is a performance based class. Public speaking is required for
activities and graded assignments.
You will participate in either individual or group activities such as Drama
games, improvisation, scene work, monologues etc.
Will there be school plays?
YES.
We stage 3 plays each school year. There will sometimes be special
performances such as One Acts, Club plays etc.
Can anyone be in the school plays?
NO.
You have to be a Drama student and you must "AUDITION."
The Winter play is open to only Drama 2 students. Drama 1 students can work tech.
The Spring Musical is open to Drama 1 and Drama 2 students.
The 6th Grade Club has their own play which only club members can participate in.
How do I audition?
For the Winter play you will need to memorize a 1-2 minute
dramatic published monologue which will be performed at the
audition.
For the Spring musical you will need to memorize a 1-2 minute
dramatic or comedic published monologue and sing a Broadway style song, a capella (without
music) which will be performed at the audition.
The 6th Grade Club play will sing a Broadway style song for casting purposes only.
What people will be at the audition?
For the Winter Dramatic play and the Spring Musical there will be only you and the judge and a stage manager, no other
people will be in the audition room.
The 6th Grade Club will have open auditions attended by club members only.
If I'm selected to be in the play, can I miss some rehearsal dates?
NO. When you are NOT at rehearsals other actors that interact with you on
stage are negatively affected.
You will be given a rehearsal schedule at the informational meetings. If
you see a conflict with any of the dates please don't audition.
If you miss 2 rehearsal dates you will be removed from the play and another
actor will be cast in your role.
Can a parent help with school plays?
YES.
Parents are able to organize and sell concessions before, at intermission and after each
plays. There will be a contact person who will arrange parent help.
Other activities such as costumes, make-up, technical, set construction, ushering and publicity are
part of the student's curriculum and will be their responsibility with teacher guidance.
Can I turn in my homework/projects early or late?
NO.
Homework and special projects will only be accepted on
the date that they are due. *SEE NEXT QUESTION*
If I'm absent, do I need to do the homework/projects I've missed?
YES.
The student is responsible for completing assignments. The student will choose 2 class buddies
which will provide any material missed.
How can a parent arrange to speak to the teacher privately?

Can any Drama student participate in the Junior Thespian competitions?
NO.
The district and state Junior Thespian Festivals are only for Drama 2 students with the teacher
choosing students for the state festival.
Where can students get scripts for the play reports?
Bookstores, libraries and script publishers have many titles to choose from.
Pioneer Drama at pioneerdrama.com has many short, inexpensive and easy to read
titles that are highly recommended.
