I've been teaching for Miami-Dade County Public Schools for 19 years.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Education from Barry University, a Master's
degree in Education from The University of Miami and a Bachelor's degree in
Electrical Engineering from The University of South Florida.
I started my teaching career at Devon Aire Elementary teaching
computers. After three years at Devon Aire, I went to David Fairchild
Elementary, concentrating on grades 3 through 5. I started a Drama program
while at Fairchild which was recognized by M-DCPS Department of Life
Skills for superior achievement. The Drama program won many awards as well
as performing plays at the school and at locations throughout the county.
Many of my elementary actors went on to become Drama Magnet students in
middle school. I currently teach Drama/Theatre Arts at Palmetto Middle
School. I am starting my 6th year there and I feel that my students can
compete with the best across Miami-Dade County.
I work at The Miami Children's Theater as a set designer and stage
craft instructor. In addition to MCT, I am a stage manager/assistant
director with The Miami Stage Company, a local community theater group.
I work with and direct professional adult actors and produce fantastic plays.
I am the Superintendant for The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair Drama
department. This entails all aspects of organizing schools, private theatres
and conservatory groups to compete against others for theatrical honors.
Lastly, I adjudicate for High School Thespian competitions which allows me
to see how my middle school thespians have grown.
I enjoy attending live theater, as often as possible from elementary
school plays to community theatre and Broadway. I feel I can learn from
all levels of theatre and I encourage others to do so too. I also love watching
movies, Bonsai gardening and visiting bookstores. My one crutch in life is
Starbucks!
I have a wonderful and amazingly talented daughter named Hanah.
She is currently attending Roosevelt University, at their prestigious Chicago College
for Performing Arts conservatory in Chicago IL. She is in her first year at Roosevelt
and loves it. She graduated from New World School of the Arts in the Musical
Theater track. She is a true triple threat; she acts, sings and dances. Her love
for theatre is what motivated me to become a Drama teacher.
I am looking forward to seeing all of my former students as well as
meeting many new ones. Drama is a rewarding subject and I know you all will
enjoy taking it.
