As part of our
hundredth day activities, we will be creating a museum showcase of one hundred.  I challenge students to find objects from around their home and find a unique way to display their collection.   They may glue objects to a piece of cardboard in a design, collage, build a structure, or other creative artwork.
Examples:
  • goldfish crackers in a fish shape
  • create a picture of toys from a catalog
  • an igloo made from sugar cubes
During the hundredth day of school, we will display our collections and explain its’ creation.
DUE:  February 1st

Career Day is coming to Panther Run, Friday, February 17, 2012.  If you would like to share your career and help inspire our students, please contact Dr. Chacona at 754-323-6850 or email at Shannon.Chacona@browardschools.com

Long Vowel Rules:  When there is a silent e at the end of the word, the silent e hits the vowel on the head and says "say your name".  For example:  cake, rope, bike.  Two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking.  For example:  read, need, tie.

Our next field trip is coming soon.  We will be going to Flamingo Gardens.  This trip has been specifically designed to educate students about wildlife and the environment.  It features Florida's native wildlife such as birds of prey, reptiles, and small mammals.  The relationship between animals and their environment is emphasized along with discussions of habitats and current environmental issues affecting Florida's wildlife and what students can do to help.  Children and animals have a natural affinity for each other, and this program uses that interest to expand their knowledge and motivate them to care about the environment.  Our trip will include a visit to the free-flight Aviary to observe Florida's water and shore birds in their natural wetland habitats and a visit to the Bird of Prey Center.  Students will also participate in an in-depth visit to the Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary to observe the Alligator, Flamingo, Otter, Panther and Bobcat exhibits.  Lastly, students will see a live presentation by the Animal Care Staff featuring Florida native wildlife.  Our class is scheduled to tour Flamingo Gardens on Friday, February 3rd.  The cost for this trip is $11.  We are collecting for this trip.  Payment is due no later than January 18th.  Students should bring a bag lunch the day of the trip.  No glass containers or lunchboxes please.
