Do I have to read a book every night?
I highly recommend at least 10 minutes of daily reading. Your 10
minutes could come from reading the cereal box at breakfast, the kids
menu at your favorite restaurant, lyrics from your favorite song, a
magazine article of interest, a picture book or even a few pages from
a chapter book.
How do I let you know about an absence or change in dismissal?
The easiest way to inform me about an absence or change in dismissal,
is to make a note in the homework planner.
Can I take an Accelerated Reader quiz at home?
No. However, you can view Accelerated Reader quiz results and view
your virtual bookshelf at Renaissance Home Connect website (see
technology link).
What are the school hours?
School hours are from 8:00 a.m. unitl 2:00 p.m. Students are allowed
on campus at 7:30 a.m. There is no supervision before this time.
Please do not drop your child off before this time. It is unsafe.
What is Early Release?
Early Release days are academic days which end at 12:00pm. They are
considered full days and are not made up. These days allow for staff
develoment and planning. After school care is available on these
days to students who are enrolled in the program. Please be sure your
child knows how they will be getting home on these days.
Should I be signing my child's planner book?
Yes. It is very important that you look at your child's agenda each
night. The agenda will be used as a tool of communication between
home and school. I will use the agenda to communicate special
rotations as well as any other comments for the day. Please take the
time to review the agenda and sign in the day's corresponding space
so that I know you have reviewed the agenda. In addition, students
should log their nightly reading in the planner.
How should my child be completing homework assignments?
I recommend that you allow your child to complete homework
assignments independently. You should be there for assistance but it
is important that you allow them to do the thinking and the "inking"
(writing). All homework should be completed in print, and in pencil
unless otherwise directed. Your child should not mark or draw on any
part of their assignment unless assigned to do so.
Should my child be reading at night?
Yes. Reading is an important part of your child's education. Not only
should your child be reading in school each day but you should also
make reading a part of your child's nightly homework. A specific
reading assignment will not always be assigned but each student is
expected to read 15 minutes nightly. Make reading a family affair!
Can I bring in birthday treats or celebrate my child's birthday at school?
We do not "celebrate" birthdays in the classroom. You may send in
cupcakes (please no cupcake cakes or cakes) that will be served
during your child's lunch period.
What if my child is tardy?
Please try to avoid tardiness! If your child is tardy, you must sign
him/her in at the office to get a tardy slip. Students will not be
permitted in class without a tardy slip.
Where does my child put his or her lunch money?
Please decide on a special place in the bookbag for your child to
consistently look for lunch or ice cream money. I suggest if your
child brings a lunch box that they keep any ice cream money inside
the lunch box.
Do you check bookbags for Important papers or homework?
No. I believe that students should learn to be independent and
responsible learners. Please place any important notes, papers,
homework, or checks inside of your child's folder. I check folders
daily.
What is the school's web address?
www.pantherrun.com
My child has an appointment. When is the best time to check them out?
Obviously the best time is after the school day. However, I
understand that this is not always possible. If you must check your
child out early for an appointment please try to avoid READING and
MATH blocks in our schedule. These are two of the most difficult
subjects for a child to catch up on when subject content is missed.
If at all possible please try to bring your child back to school
after their appointment so that they miss as little curriculum as
possible. No child will be dismissed after 1:30 p.m.
