18 , 2009.  FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN A GRADE OF 0.  THE ONLY 
EXCEPTIONS ARE ABSENCES FROM LAST WEEK (WEEK OF 5/11). PLEASE REFER TO 
PENDLETON HANDBOOK FOR MORE INFORMATION ON MAKE UP WORK.

OUR CLASSROOM IS GOVERNED BY MUTUAL RESPECT AND COOPERATION

1.	Please bring to class every day:
a.	Textbook / workbook / dictionary
b.	Pen or pencil
c.	Notebook (a folder is also recommended) with plenty of paper
d.	Additional supplies as announced
e.	Computer is optional unless specifically requested

In order to be considered prepared you must have the above listed items.  If 
you do not, you run the risk of receiving a zero. Preparation is key to 
success in a foreign language classroom.


2.	Notebooks are a learning tool and should be organized as follows:
a.	Page(s) for listing assignment (separate planner is also acceptable)
b.	Homework/class work in order with date of assignment
c.	Class notes dated and in order
d.	Handout sheets (folder is good for this)
e.	NOTE: It is your responsibility to take notes in class.  This is a 
personal issue and the amount and style of notes will vary from person to 
person.  If it has been explained in class, you are responsible for that 
material.
f.	Notes may be kept in your computer in organized Word files. DO NOT 
try to type your notes in class unless you are proficient at keyboarding and 
know how to insert diacritical marks.  If you like a typed notebook, 
transcribe the notes after class.

3.	Homework/Class work:
a.	Every effort will be made to provide time in class to begin or 
even   complete assignments
b.	If there is not sufficient time  to go over the assignment in class 
that day, you MUST bring it to the next class
c.	All written work must be neat, legible and COMPLETE
d.	you are expected to CORRECT ALL WORK that we go over in class  and 
to use your work to contribute 
e.	Remember-reading, studying, preparing are assignments
f.	Being unprepared may result in a zero

	

4.	Absences:
a.	All work must be completed and you are responsible for all material 
missed in class 
b.   Tests and quizzes must be made up immediately upon your return per   
the Pendleton School Handbook
c.   It is YOUR responsibility to find out what was missed & discuss the 
work with me
d.  Please speak with me for pre-planned absences to set up a mutually 
convenient make-up schedule & to arrange for work to be done during this 
absence
e.   Failure to make-up tests and quizzes within the allotted time could 
result in a zero



5.	Grading:
a.	tests, quizzes, projects, compositions, oral talks and 
presentations, assignments & class participation
b.	grading will be defined in a separate handout
c.	NOTE:  CLASS PARTICIPATION IS DEFINED AS RAISING YOUR HAND, PAYING 
ATTENTION, BEING PREPARED AND TRYING TO USE SPANISH.

6.	General Rules:
a.	IN SEAT AT THE START OF CLASS AS DEFINED BY THE CLASSROOM CLOCK!
b.	 BOOK, NOTEBOOK OPEN IMMEDIATELY
c.	Please keep room neat (no paper on floors, writing on desks)
d.	No internet unless it is a class activity

FINAL EXAMS JUNE 09

THE FINAL EXAM FOR JUNE 09 IN SPANISH I AND SPANISH II WILL BE A PROJECT.  
THE RUBRIC WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AS A HAND OUT IN CLASS AND WILL BE AVAILABLE 
ON MY WEB SITE.

ALL STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THE PROJECT AND PRESENT IT IN CLASS.
YOU MAY NOT PRESENT DURING DIRECTED LEARNING OR ANY OTHER TIME WHEN THE CLASS 
IS NOT PRESENT.  THIS IS AN EXERCISE IN COMMUNICATION AND, AS SUCH, REQUIRES 
GROUP PARTICIPATION.  THE DAY THAT YOU PRESENT IS THE DAY WHEN THE WRITTEN 
PORTION IS HANDED IN AS WELL.

THE SCHEDULED DAYS TO PRESENT AND HAND IN YOUR PROJECT ARE AS FOLLOWS:
A – MAY 27 & 29
B – MAY 26 & 28

WE WILL SELECT DAYS FOR PRESENTATION/HANDING IN PROJECTS AT THE BEGINNING OF 
MAY.  PLEASE MAKE AND FINALIZE YOUR PLANS WITH COACHES, FAMILY, ETC.  BY THIS 
TIME.  ONCE YOU HAVE A DAY TO PRESENT, THAT IS YOUR DAY AND YOU MUST BE IN 
CLASS.

YOU MAY PRESENT ON A DAY OTHER THAN THOSE SCHEDULED ABOVE ONLY IF YOU WILL 
NOT BE PRESENT DUE TO A TOURNAMENT OR AN EARLY DEPARTURE.  YOU MUST HAVE A 
GREEN/PINK CARD AND ADMINISTRATION APPROVAL.  YOU WILL THEN BE SCHEDULED ON 
YOUR LAST CLASS DAY AT PENDLETON.

YOU WILL BE GIVEN YOUR PROJECT/EXAM GRADE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.  IF YOU ARE 
NOT HAPPY WITH THE GRADE, YOU MAY REPORT TO CLASS ON YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED 
EXAM DAY AND TIME AND TAKE A TRADITIONAL WRITTEN EXAM.  THIS WILL BE GRADED 
AND THE HIGHEST GRADE OF THE TWO (PROJECT OR TRADITIONAL EXAM) WILL BE USED 
TO COMPUTE YOUR SEMESTER AVERAGE.  THIS APPLIES ONLY TO JUNE 1 & JUNE 2.  
THERE WILL BE NO OTHER TIME TO TAKE THE WRITTEN EXAM.

PLEASE MAKE YOUR PLANS AND ARRANGEMENTS AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE.  FAILURE TO 
COME TO CLASS OR HAND IN YOUR WRITTEN COMPONENT ON THE ASSIGNED DAY/CLASS

1.	THE FINAL EXAM WILL BE A TWO PART PROJECT.  YOU WILL WRITE AN 
ORIGINAL STORY WITH PICTURES AND YOU WILL PRESENT THIS STORY TO THE CLASS.  
YOUR GRADE WILL BE A COMBINATION OF BOTH THE WRITTEN/ILLUSTRATED STORY AND 
THE PRESENTATION.  THE GRADE  WILL BE CALCULATED AS FOLLOWS:
60% - WRITTEN PROJECT
40% - ORAL PRESENTATION

2.	THE WRITTEN SECTION:  HERE YOU WILL BE WRITING A SHORT STORY.  THE 
OPENING LINE WILL BE ES UNA NOCHE OSCURA Y TORMENTOSA. . .  AFTER THIS 
OPENING YOU MAY BE AS CREATIVE AS YOU CHOOSE AND FOLLOW ANY STORY LINE THAT 
YOU LIKE.  WHEN YOU HAVE WRITTEN YOUR STORY YOU MUST ILLUSTRATE IT AND FORMAT 
IT INTO BOOK FORM, INCLUDING A COVER (POR =BY).  YOU WILL END UP WITH 
SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE A CHILDREN’S BOOK.  YOUR STORY SHOULD BE ABOUT 300-
350 WORDS.   THIS WILL BE HANDED IN AND WILL BE GRADED WITH A VALUE OF 60% 
TOWARD YOUR TOTAL EXAM GRADE.

3.	THE ORAL SECTION:  ON YOUR ASSIGNED DAY YOU WILL PRESENT         YOUR 
STORY TO THE CLASS.  USING YOUR BOOK YOU WILL SHOW US THE ILLUSTRATIONS AS 
YOU TELL US THE STORY.  PLEASE DO NOT READ TO US.  YOU MUST HOLD UP THE BOOK, 
TURN THE PAGES AS NEEDED AND MAKE EYE CONTACT.  THE PRESENTATION GRADE WILL 
HAVE A VALUE OF 40% TOWARD YOUR TOTAL EXAM GRADE.

CHOICE.  YOU MAY BE AS CREATIVE AS YOU CHOOSE AND FOLLOW ANY STORY LINE THAT 
YOU LIKE.  WHEN YOU HAVE WRITTEN YOUR STORY YOU MUST ILLUSTRATE IT AND MAKE 
IT INTO BOOK FORM, INCLUDING A COVER.  YOUR FORMAT FOR DIALOGUE AND 
ILLUSTRATIONS WILL BE THAT OF A COMIC BOOK OR A CARTOON (SEE ATTACHED).  YOUR 
STORY SHOULD BE ABOUT 500-600 WORDS.   THIS WILL BE HANDED IN AND WILL BE 
GRADED WITH A VALUE OF 60% TOWARD YOUR TOTAL EXAM GRADE.

3.	THE ORAL SECTION:  ON YOUR ASSIGNED DAY YOU WILL PRESENT         YOUR
