NewsFlash

Good for you!  You have successfully signed up for the Newsflash feature!  This places you "in the loop" for the latest updates and announcements.  View the newest announcement below....
Just an added note: All of my documents are in pdf format, which means you have to have Adobe Reader to view and print them.  If your computer does not have that, ask you parents to visit the "Links" section of my website.  Posted there is the legitimate site where it can be downloaded for free.  This is VERY IMPORTANT if you wish to view/print the documents off my website all year!

Hope all is going well and you enjoyed the Middle Ages Unit.  SOOO sorry I had to miss it, as its one of my favorites.  I miss you all VERY much and am looking forward to coming back the last 2 days of school to say goodbye and to maybe bring the little ones by.  I will update and add a few more pictures for those of you who are interested.  I have a request to ask.  You all know I am always looking for ways to improve the class and be a better teacher.  I am hoping you can help me with some valuable input.  The quickest and easiest way to do that while I am home is an online survey.  It has questions that are 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree) and each question has the option to add comments.  This is good so if you want to clarify an answer or make a suggestion it gives you the opportunity.  I just ask that you be honest BUT constructive in your criticism and message.  PLEASE help me make my class better and complete the anonymous survey.  The link is posted here: http://www.quia.com/sv/578480.html

It was brought to my attention that a powerpoint and notes were not viewed in class on one of the days that I was unexpectedly out.  I covered in review today what I felt needed to be covered and everyone had the opportunity to ask about items from the study guide.  I would, however, like to to please go to the notes link on the website and print out a copy of the powerpoint handout and glue them into your IN as notes.  It is called Roman Military Punic Wars Powerpoint Handout.  It will be part of our notebook check and you will need to review them for the test on Monday.  You DO NOT need to print it out in color. You can always hand copy the notes part (which is what was supposed to be done the day I was out) if printing is at all an issue.  Either way you are responsible for it.

CALLING ALL PARENTS:  I am looking for some volunteers to help grout our mosaic project on Tuesday, April 10th.  I have spoken to Mrs. Deaterly our long term sub and she would like to still do the Roman Mosaic Tile Project with the students.  The students will be working on them Wednesday and Thursday of the week before, and I will need 5 committed parents (not institutionalized) and not afraid to get a little messy to come in Tuesday morning April 10th from 9 am - 12 pm to help grout outside on the picnic tables.  Please email me if you are available.  If I cannot confim enough parental support, I will change the plans and just not include the project this year.  But I will need to know ASAP as Mrs. Deaterly and I are now working closely together in setting up the last quarter.

PARENTS:
We will be doing our Greek Vase Art Project on Thursday, February 23rd and Friday, February 24th.  There are a few supplies we still could use and VERY much could use additional VOLUNTEERS for the day.  No artistic talent necessary...just a few pairs of hands help the day go smoother!  Please let me know if you are available those days.
Still needed: 6 plastic disposible tablecloths (8 ft. long work best), 5 cans of Clear Gloss Acrylic Spary, and for our JEOPARDY game we are in need of AAA batteries  ALL DONATIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

01-30-12
Research is due Wednesday...originally tomorrow, but we extended it an additional day to gather more and to make sure you have you ROUGH DRAFT of your Bibliography according to the PINK Works Cited sheet in your red MVP folder.  It is very important that you have this for a fe reasons.  1.)  Research counts as 15% of your project grade. 2.)  The works cited rough draft is a HW grade AND will be 10% of the project grade the next day.  3.) If you have the RD on Wednesday that gives you the opportunity to have it checeked for accuracy before the final is due.  You miss out if you do not have it with you!

Don't forget the county resources available to you through their website.  There are a few research sites that pull resources for you.  I typed in Ancient Sparta and found a few good ones....

Look under the student tab then under resources.  I believe you can find things in Elem. (might be a little primary) Middle and High....see links below

We will be doing an outside activity next week on Friday.  I will need a few parent volunteers (who are PALS approved for this year) to help with the activities that day.  This one will involve being outside the portable all day (or for a morning shift and afternoon shift) helping facilitate students  (organize and monitor behavior) at different "Olympic Events."  Another opportunity to volunteer in our class is quickly approaching, when we work on our Greek Vase (Painting) Project.  That will be on Feb. 15th and 16th.  This one will be to assist us in class with setting up of materials, maintaining supplies, working with students on ideas and direction, and clean up.  This one can be slightly more messy, FYI.  For both of these activities I am looking for parents that are 1st PALS approved for this year and available all day. If not available for the entire day, can commit to a morning (8:45-1:00) or an afternoon (1:45-4:00) shift.  Please let me know if you are interested or available.  I will notify you when a schedule of volunteers is compiled.  THANK YOU!!!

01-01-12
I hope everyone had a very restful and relaxing break.  I spent my whole break enjoying my time with my daughter and all of my sisters who were in town for the holiday.  I am very excited to get back to school...one of my favorite units is about to begin, ANCIENT GREECE!  The semester is almost at an end (January 13th) and we are just about half way through the year.  We will be using our old IN on Monday for an in class reflection which will count as a notebook check grade, so its very important for you to have it on Monday and to really take your time to be specific in your response.  We will be beginning our new IN on Tuesday.  As I explained before the break, you will need to have your new spiral ready to go (new cover, signed guidelines inside the cover, title page with your name, my name, and period, and of course the table of contents pages.) prepared for that Tuesday we get back.  Well...its back to school and back to work (and fun)  Can't wait to see you all Monday!

PARENTS: We will be making Sumerian Cylinder Seals next week and could really use some Sculpey Clay donations.  They are little square polymer clay found at Michael's and other craft dept.  Blue, Red, metalic colors, black etc. are good colors to emulate stone.  No neon or bright colors (yellow, pink etc.)  I have some from last year, but would love to have a variety for  students to choose from.  Thank you SO much for your continued support!
