February 2012
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope each family had a wonderful, restful Winter Vacation! I can't
wait to hear all about your activities.
We will be continuing our Global Tech Studies this month.
We have also been using Brainpop Jr. to introduce and reinforce
concepts in Science and Social Studies. I will be sending the the password
and username information so this website can be viewed at home as well.
This month we will be learning about Africa and studying African
American History. We will begin learning about what the African continent
looks like and the many animals that live there. In our study of African
American History, we will learn about many African Americans that invented
products that we still use today, like the gas mask, the traffic light,
peanut butter, the cell phone and the remote control to name a few. We will
also learn about those brave men and women who risked their lives to make a
change in the lives of not only African Americans but the entire country(and
the world.)
The children are continuing to do a TERRIFIC job at taking AR tests on
the computer. We will continue to go to the Computer Lab to work on Ticket to
Read. Thank You Mrs. Blaire Brown for assisting us!
Black History Report information was discussed and sent home on Friday
January 20. Each child has a person to research and complete a written
report on. The completed report is due on Monday February 6. They will each
present their reports in class. They can use a book or the internet(with
parent support) to find information for this project.
The Book in the Bag program is moving right along as well. Thank you
for "listening to your child read." Look for new books to be sent home this
month.
With the right kind of support each child can achieve success!!
I look forward to working with each of you this year.
Together I know we will assist your child in becoming ALL THAT THEY CAN BE!
Check my website for updates and skill practice.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Regina J. Simpson
