Guidelines
There is no limit to the amount of extra credit that a student may earn
through completing assignments related to the Planet Earth videos during the
course of the school year.
In order to participate in any extra credit assignment, students may not
have more than two assignments earning zero credit. If more than two
assignments have an earned grade of 0% for the grading period, work must be
made up before extra credit will be applied.
The extra credit points listed at the top of each assignment are the
percentage points that will be added to a student's final nine-week average.
Each video lasts between 40 and 45 minutes. Due to the length of each
video, you will often need a few sessions to watch the entire thing. Simply
make a note of where you stopped so that you can find your starting point
rapidly.
The Planet Earth videos in the classroom are the same ones that are shown on
the Discovery Channel. They are also available for purchase on DVD or
Bluray. Any alternative way of viewing these videos is acceptable and
encouraged but certainly not required.
When working on an extra credit assignment, first take a blank assignment
sheet from the extra credit bin before you view the video. This will allow
you to focus in on relevant information provided by the video. When you are
answering questions, completing an essay, or compiling a report, make sure
to use a separate sheet of paper. Then staple it behind the original
assignment sheet. Place your name on both.
The deadline for extra credit is the last day for each nine-week grading
period.
No extra credit will be applied to a student's grade until the end of the
grading period.
No student may earn a final grade higher than a 100% A. If the student
would like to shift extra credit points to another grading period, that is
allowed when notice is given to the teacher prior to the end of the grading
period.
