Required Reading

You must have a book to read every day during Block II, no matter
what class you have that block.

You must read at least three, one-hundred page books per nine weeks
and log the books on your reading log. Your parent or guardian must
sign off on each book you read. The book MUST be at your reading
level (or higher) according to the Gates-MacGinitie test.

From October until March, all sixth graders will participate in the
BookIt! program. When you read one books per month as part of the
five books, and you have them signed on your Reading Log, you will
receive an A and free pizza. The students who read the greatest
number of books among the three sixth-grade standard language arts
teachers' classes will win a party in May.

Global Academy seventh-grade  students will participate in READ 100;
HELP 100, pending Scholastic's contact.
Every time we read 100 books, Scholastic will send 100 books to the
needy. I will provide a treat for every 100 books we read as a
class. This should be an easy goal as we have to read 3 books per
nine weeks multiplied by the number of students in class.

You must meet your Accelerated Reader goal every nine weeks. This
will be worth ten percent of your nine weeks' grade.

If you are a student with limited funds who believes that reading
books is one of the best ways to learn and grow, write us a note
(not an e-mail) telling us a little about yourself and including
your home address. Also, look through our list of Townsend Library
and Bluford Books and tell us which three books you would like to
receive at no charge. Send your note to:

Book Editor
Townsend Press
1038 Industrial Drive
West Berlin, NJ 08091

You'll also be sent a free copy of our booklet 60 Good Books to
Read.

Global Academy grade six must purchase the book I HAVE LIVED A
THOUSAND
YEARS.
Global Academy grade seven must purchase the book MILKWEED.
Bring the book in March.

See Ms. Seaman for help or answers to questions.
