S.A.F.A.R.I. Notebooks

S.A.F.A.R.I. Notebooks

Our classroom theme for the year is- "We're WILD About 1st Grade." Our organizational notebooks for this year will be called S.A.F.A.R.I. notebooks, which is an acronym for Students Accountable For All Responsibility and Independence. That's exactly the purpose for these wonderful organizational tools, to help the children become responsible and organized with all their learning. These notebooks will hold everything needed to keep our families updated on classroom and school events! This is what you will find in our S.A.F.A.R.I. Notebooks:
Zippered Pencil Pouch -This will be for transferring money back and forth from home to school. Money should always be placed in an envelop labeled with your child's name on it and the purpose of the money (lunch, field trips, book orders, etc) . I'm also going to add a pencil pouch in the reading section. This will hold word cards.

Clear Plastic Page Protectors- The first will hold an explanation of the S.A.F.A.R.I. Notebook in the front and our classroom/learning expectations on the back.
In the second clear plastic protector will be a bi-weekly class newsletter in the front and our classroom schedule on the back.

First Manila Pocket - This is a 2-sided pocket. Each side will be labeled and hold the following:
Pocket 1- PTA news, office communications, community communications, etc.
Pocket 2- Missed Work- If you child is absent, check this for papers that need to be completed and returned.

Second Manilla Pocket - Side 1-You will find graded papers that should be taken out and kept at home. Side 2- Things that need to be signed and returned will be in this pocket.

Behavior Journal- Your child will be recording their behavior each day. Check and initial the chart daily. New charts will be added each week. A copy of the classroom behavior expectations will also be included for quick reference.

Communication Log- In this area you will find sheets of notebook paper. You may write me notes and I will answer them. Also, use this area for writing notes if your child is absent. Please make sure your child knows if there is a note in this area I need to read.

Everyday Math- In this red section you will find information about our Everyday Math program. You will find a list of definitions as well as Home Links for units as we are working on each.

Reading/Language Arts -In this blue section you will find everything pertaining to your child's reading class. Each reading teacher will include sections that pertain to their individual classrooms. Look for weekly spelling, vocabulary, grammar, stories, etc. More information will be provided by your childís reading teacher once our reading instruction begins.
