Florida Map Project
FLORIDA MAP PROJECT Due: Friday, September 19, 2008 Over the past few weeks fourth grade has spent a tremendous amount of time learning about Florida’s geography. It is time to put that knowledge into action! Each fourth grader will create a poster sized map of Florida. Listed below are the steps needed to take to complete this project. 1. Students draw the outline of Florida so that it fits the size of the poster board (students may trace around a real map or a trace a projected image to make this as accurate as possible). 2. Students label the major bodies of water (students can label more for extra credit) a. Gulf of Mexico b. Atlantic Ocean c. Straits of Florida d. Lake Okeechobee e. St. Johns River 3. Students label capital with a name and a star. 4. Students label the city that they live in with a name and a heart. 5. Students label at least five cities that they have visited in Florida and write one sentence telling about their experiences there. (students can label more for extra credit) 6. Students draw or use pictures to put five native animals in locations near their natural habitat (these animals can be in the water or on land). (students can label more for extra credit) 7. Students draw or use pictures to depict three major attractions on the map. (students can label more for extra credit) 8. Students label the top of the map with it’s title 9. Students create a key for the map 10. Students color the rest of the map so that there are no areas left uncolored. Rubric for Grading this Project: Name: Possible Points Points Earned Map is Accurately Drawn 10 Labeled Bodies of Water 5 Labeled capital and city they live in. 5 Label and sentences about five cities they have visited 10 Five animals 10 Three Major Attractions 5 Map Title 5 Key 10 Colored 10 Student Created 20 Presentation 10 Total Points 100
