Main Lesson Block Schedule
Form Drawing Unit #1: August 22 - September 2
Introducting the basic skills for developing uniform letter and
number construction through freehand geometry.
Language Arts Unit # 1: September 6 - October 11
Introduction to a select grouping of consonants. Protocols for the
upcoming foundations for writing and reading skills will be
introduced during this first unit.
Arithmetic Unit # 1: October 12 - November 1
This block will be an exploration into the ‘qualitative’ nature of
numbers. We begin with the unity or‘one-ness’ of ourselves as
unique individualities. The image of ‘one sun’ proceeds to the
duality or‘two-ness’ of night and day. The written work will
encompass the forming of Roman Numerals. We will also practice and
develop our skills in counting, using a variety of movement
activities to reinforce our experience of different musical
intervals and rhythms.
Language Arts Unit # 2: November 7 - November 22
Introduction to a select grouping of consonants and vowels.
Protocols for the upcoming foundations for writing and reading
skills will be continued during this second unit.
November 29 - December 15
Continuation of consonants and vowels presentations. Introduction
of Four Math Processes will be integrated into this block schedule.
Saint Nicolas will be introduced as additional story content.
Arithmetic Unit # 2: January 9 - January 27
We will be entering into our second study of numbers and the four
processes. Each process will be initially introduced in a
pictorial way as one of the 'King's Advisors'. Addition,
subtraction, division and multiplication are all personified in a
story and collaborate to help the kingdom and its citizens to
return to health and prosperity. The operation symbols will also be
introduced with interesting and imaginative pictures which will
help the students to distinquish and match the correct process to
the problem. Some of the objectives of this block will be to teach
and practice: counting sequences in 2's, 3's,4's,5's,and 10's
through rhythmic movement, basic addition facts 1-10, the four
rules or processes through practical activities and mental math
problems, and to record written examples of math problems in a
linear format in their morning lesson book. Following a review of
first grade computation skills, second grade level students will
begin regular computation practice for addition, subtraction and
multiplication in the vertical format. Other basic math concepts
will include time measurement, place values and odd/even numbers.
Language Arts Unit 3: January 30 - February 17
Content will include the final consonant group and a review of long
vowels and decoding skills from the previous unit. Introduction of
short vowels and decoding skillsj. Writing and reading skills for
2nd level students will be developed through Saints and Fables Main
Lesson bookwork and readers.
Arithmetic Unit 3: February 21 - March 9
Review of four processes and linear computation. We also review
the counting intervals for the 2's,3's,4's,5's,and 10's times
tables. We will introduce vertical format for written computation
and word problems.
Language Arts Unit 4: March 19 - April 13
Review of long and short vowels. Writing and reading skills
development practice based on readiness. Upper and lower case
letters for early group. Introduction of cursive writing for
2nd level group. Sentence development, journal writing and fable
readers will be introduced.
Multi-subjects Unit 4: April 16 - June 1
Arithmetic: Computation skills practice / Multiplication tables
practice.
Language Arts: Writing and reading practice
Drama: Play development and practice
