"Art like the Artists" is a year long learning experience that I will
be trying for the first time with our third grade students. Because so many
of these projects are new and exciting, our fourth and fifth grade students
may occasionally participate in these lessons as well. These projects teach
the elements of art through studying the work of famous artists, looking for
the art elements in their work, and trying to create art in a similar style.
We tried our first "Art like the Artist" project this week. It was a blast!
The students were intrigued by the artist's work and excited to create their
own project like his.
The third grade artists are currently studying the work of Georgia
O'Keeffe. They have viewed many of her large, bright flower pictures. They
observed how her pictures filled the entire canvas she painted. Then students
used oil pastels and water color paints to create their own Georgia O'Keeffe
style flower pictures.
We will study Ancient Roman mosaics once our "Flowers" are finished.
