Make sure you check your child's backpack on Friday. Your child's
reading and spelling words for the following week will go home in your
child's agenda every Friday. I want to thank the parents who are going over
their child's reading and spelling words that go home in their child's agenda
book on Friday the week before the lesson is taught so that when their child
comes to school on Monday he/she will be prepared for story of the week.

Look for the plastic bag with your child’s AR reading book every Thursday.
Return the book in the plastic bag with the list of questions and the
completed sign in sheet each Monday. Your child will take a quiz on the book
on Monday. The class has to return all of the books to the library on
Wednesday each week. Write name of the AR book on your child reading log every
time your child reads it to you.

Decoding is the first step in the reading process. If your child is
reading fluently without sounding out the words then your child will better
understand what he/she is reading. Reading comprehension is the final outcome
that I will be checking. As with everything else in life,
the more you practice the better you will become.

You can go on my web site click on links, then go to Tumblebooks for a
variety of exciting books for your child to listen to. Click the speaker icon
off and your child can read each page to you. Click the speaker icon on and
the computer will read the story to your child. Make sure that your child is
on the appropriate reading level. Your child can take a comprehension quiz
after each story.

                       Excellent Web sites:
You can access your child's text books on BEEP. Your child's user name is
their student number in the front of their agenda and their password is their
birthday (Two digits for the month, two digits for the day and four digits for
the year.)
Your child's user name and password for First in Math is taped in front
of your child's agenda. This is an excellent site for extra math practice.
You can visit this site by going to www.firstinmath.com or go to the links
page on this website. Go on my web site, click on First in Math for 10 minutes
each night for extra math practice. I will be keeping track of your child’s
participation. I included a First in Math packet in your child’s Communication
Folder this packet will give you more information on First in Math and how to
play each game.

Practice reading your words each week:

* SAY Point to and say the word.
* READ Have your child read the word.
* WRITE Have your child write the word.
* USE Have your child use the word in a sentence.
Repeat this process for each word.
*Practice Mix up the words and see if your child can read the words
fluently without sounding the words out each time.
Start over the week end so that your child comes to school
Monday of each week ready to read the story with me.
* If your child is able to read these words with ease then have your child
practice spelling these words.
