Pack your bags! We’re going on an Adventure in 7th Grade World History and
Geography. We’ll be learning about many places, people, and cultures, so get
ready to work hard and learn a lot. To give you a brief summary of some of
the topics included, we will:

• continue using the 6 Essential Elements of Geography and the 10
Characteristics of Cultures
• use map skills to study various regions of our world
• investigate world governments and religions
• study the specific geographical regions such as North and South America,
Europe, Africa, and Asia
• discover how a region’s history was often affected by its physical
geography and resources
• experience a Model United Nations unit
• explore careers and start to see how choices made now may affect a
student’s future

Course Description:

Seventh Grade students will learn about people and places around the world.
We will explore continents, countries, and cultures. We will discuss the role
of climate, landscape features, history, and resources in defining life
across planet earth.

In order to do this we will utilize an Interactive Notebook, Class
activities, Creative Long term Assignments, our textbooks (History Alive! The
Medieval World and Beyond and World Geography), quizzes and tests, homework
and class assignments, power points and use of the internet and libraries.

Classroom Rules:

Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and good Results will come your way! Students
are expected to show respect towards the TCMS staff and other students, and
the property of the school, teachers, and other students. This encompasses a
full range of behaviors that we will discuss and reinforce throughout the
year, including but not limited to: being courteous, being punctual and
paying attention to and following teacher instructions. FIFA Soccer Rules for
the classroom! Disrespect of any kind will not be tolerated.

Grading Weights:

Homework/Class Work 10%
Creative Long term Assignments 20%
Tests 30%
Quizzes	(announced and POP) 10%
Interactive Folder/Current Event	10%
Quarter Exam 20%

Grades are updated bi-weekly and are available for viewing on the TCMS
website. Students and parents are expected to regularly check their grades
and contact the teacher with any questions and concerns.

Students will be given assignments to complete on a regular basis. Due dates
are to be recorded in the student’s planner. Assignments will also be posted
in the classroom on the assignment board.

Absences:

Absences are the most common cause of zeroes in the grade book. Be here every
school day if possible. If you are absent, make-up work is your
responsibility (the student’s)! You may also get a “study buddy” to pick up
assignments for you.

Tardy Policy:

Students will be expected to be quietly in their seats and on the bell work
task when the bell rings or they will receive an unexcused tardy.

Homework:

Homework is to be turned in on time. There will be no late work accepted. All
assignments must be completed in order to receive a good grade for the
Interactive Notebook.

Current Events and Public Speaking:

It is pertinent that World History students know what is going on in the
world around them. At the beginning of the school year, each student will
choose a unique country to research and current events will be due on posted
Friday dates. We will rotate between boys and girls so that a student will
only have a biweekly current event (up to 4 per semester). To develop public
speaking skills, students should be prepared to stand before the class and
present their current event. NOTE: As information will be taken from the
Internet, Newspapers, etc. it is essential that each current event has an
accompanying bibliography in the correct (MLA) format for the resource used.

Restrooms: Go before or after class!

Because our time together will be jammed pack, please use the restroom before
or after class or during lunchtime. You don’t want to miss something
important. There are always emergency situations so please communicate to me.

WISH and Needs List: For anyone who can possibly supply the following, we
need:

***rolls of CLEAR packaging tape to cover our folders each quarter
***boxes of Kleenex (to survive the flu season)

PLEASE SEE COMPLETE WISH LISTS posted on our website!

Remember, we are here to assist you in learning about World History and
Geography. Any time you do not understand something, please ask your
question. If you or your parent(s) need to contact us, it can be done with
the information following our names. It’s going to be a GREAT YEAR!
