My name is Katie Hagaman and I have enjoyed teaching young children for the
past 27 years. I graduated from the University of South Florida in 1982
with a Bachelor's Degree in Specific Learning Disabilities. I earned a
Master's Degree in Reading from Nova Southeastern University in 1984. My
certifications include Reading, Early Childhood Education, Elementary
Education, Specific Learning Disabilities and ESOL. I also earned the
highest standard in education by obtaining my National Board Certification in
2003. I was honored to be named the Tatum Ridge Teacher of the Year in 2007.
I spent my first 11 years teaching students with learning disabilites and
the next 11 years teaching kindergarten. I then spent four years as a
Primary Reading Specialist. I am so excited to be teaching first grade again
where I hope to remain for my last three years!
My husband, Chuck, is the Colonel at the Manatee Sheriff's Office where he
has worked for the past 32 years. We have been married 26 years and have
two wonderful children. My son, Ryan, is 23 and will graduate from the
University of Florida in December(Go Gators!!). My daughter, Kristen, is
17. She is a senior at Lakewood Ranch High School and a competitive soccer
player. She will attend Mercer University next year on a soccer scholarship.
We also have two crazy dogs; Oreo is a Pomeranian and Rocky is an American
Eskimo.
This will be an exciting year: A time of growth both socially and
academically. Our class provides a safe, happy and fun learning environment
to ensure that all students reach their individual potential. So as this
exciting year begins, please remember to enjoy your child . . . Praise his
efforts . . . Encourage her to tell you about her day at school . . . Read
stories to him . . . Laugh with her . . . And tell him that you love him and
I promise to do the same!
