Narrative Writing Formula
CSP= Characters, Setting, Problem -Include the setting and characters in the first one or two sentences.
Problem- All narrative writing pieces must include ONE problem.
1st Attempt X- try to solve the problem but it doesn’t work. Do NOT use the words “it didn’t work”. Tell what happened when you tried to solve the problem.
2nd attempt- try again to solve the problem X (doesn’t work again)
3rd attempt- SOLUTION! The problem is finally solved. Again, do NOT use these words in your story. This formula is to help you include all of the necessary parts of your story.
First Grade Narrative Model
On Friday our class took a field trip to Butterfly World. My friend frightened a butterfly. It flew out the door. “Help me get it back in!” she yelled. First, I tried to catch it with my hands, but it flew high above my head. Then, we tried to scoop it up with a net, but it fluttered out each time. Finally, we found the butterfly. It was sitting on top of our teacher’s floppy straw hat! Gently, we took it back inside.
