Fourth Grade Work Habits

Dear Families,

Communication between home and school is the key to a successful year. To help with this, we have established a policy utilizing your child's agenda book.

Each day your child will be responsible for filling out his/her agenda book using the schedule posted on the board. In addition, class time will be devoted at the beginning of each week for making long term plans and scheduling important dates (i.e. field trips, concerts, etc.). Please refer to your child's agenda book for this information.

We will also be using the agenda book to monitor your child's behavior and work habits throughout the school year. Your child will earn a stamp each day for good behavior and work habits. If a problem arises, we will let you know by using the following codes:

Work Habit #1 - Appropriate Dress

  • following school dress code
  • wearing tennis shoes on PE days

Work Habit #2 - Attendance

  • no excessive tardies
  • no excessive early releases
  • having a note upon return to school

Work Habit #3 - Being Prepared

  • maintaining agenda book
  • returning forms
  • having needed supplies

Work Habit #4 - Homework

  • no incomplete/missing homework
  • no late homework

Work Habit #5 - Class Performance

  • time in class devoted to appropriate task
  • completing work on time
  • keeping up with reading requirements
  • showing effort
  • neatness
  • participation

Work Habit #6 - Behavior

  • staying in seat
  • keeping hands/feet to self
  • listening attentively
  • having an attitude of cooperation
  • accepting directions
  • using polite manners
  • working quietly

If a WH and number appear in your child's agenda book, you will be able to discuss the problem with your child that evening. The agenda book will need to be signed EVERY evening by you. Failure on your child's part to show it to you and return it will result in an additional consequence. As always, any behavior deemed severe, will be handled by the administration, and you will be notified immediately.

Each Friday, your child's agenda book will then go home with all of your child's papers from the week in a folder/envelope. Please take the time to review your child's work. This encourages your child to do his/her best, and it gives you the opportunity to follow his/her progress. If you have any comments, concerns, or questions, please write me a note in the agenda book. Please keep the week's papers unless indicated (ex. please correct and return), sign the agenda book, and have your child return it with the folder on Monday.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. We know that keeping the lines of communication open will help your child have a successful fourth grade year.
