Do I Use Volunteers in my Classroom?
Absolutely. While we foster a gradual release of responsibility
from the parent to the child when requiring the child to complete
more tasks independently, it is impossible for me to facilitate a
differentiate classroom without parent assistance. Some examples
of volunteer help are: test weekly fluency, remediation for small
groups or individuals as needed, facilitate literature circles,
clerical help, PTO parent, parties, field trips, Scholastic Book
Ordering, etc. There are so many ways parents can help out.
Do I Differentiate All Instruction?
No, this would be unreasonable to expect from any teacher. I try
to differentiate in areas where I have seen the students will
reap the greatest benefits, and I focus my D.I. there.
Where is your classroom?
Room 217 (corner room) directly across from Mrs. B-C and Mrs. Rush
What is the grading scale?
Sarasota County grading scale is:
90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D
0-59 F
Absences and Tardies
Please be sure to send in a note before or after an absence or
tardy explaining why your child has missed school. Make-up work
will be sent home upon your child's return. Unexcused absences
and tardies will be recorded on the report card.
Friday "Boomerang" Folders
A Boomerang Folder along with your child's agenda book and
Homework Folder will be sent home every Monday with all of your
child's papers from the week. Please take the time to review and
admire your child's work. This encourages your child to do
his/her best, and gives you the opportunity to follow his/her
progress. Please keep the week's papers unless otherwise
indicated (ex. "please correct and return"), sign the agenda
book, and have your child return it with the folder on Tuesday.
If you have any comments or concerns, please make a note in the
agenda book, and I will get back to you quickly.
Homework
It is your child's responsibility to complete and turn in his/her
homework on time. All homework assignments should be recorded in
your child's agenda book. Please talk to your child about setting
aside a certain time and place for doing homework. Homework will
be assigned EVERY Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, with extra time
given for larger projects. Failure to complete homework will
result in a loss of some recess time and affect your child's
overall grades. PLEASE INITIAL THE AGENDA BOOK EVERY NIGHT. If
there are any messages that I need to convey to you, the adenga
book is one line of communication that we can utilize.
Scholastic Book Clubs
Our class will be participating in the Scholastic Book Club. I
will send home an order form in the Friday envelopes
approximately once a month. Please send in any orders by the due
date indicated on the form. Make a CHECK payable to Scholastic
Book Club. NO CASH PLEASE!
Volunteers
ALL volunteers are required to complete a PALS on-line form. If
you filled one out last year, you are still required to update it
this school year. If you are planning to volunteer or chaperone
field trips, it is imperative that you come to school and
complete this on-line form.
Snack
We will have snack each day, and it is your child's
responsibility to bring his/her own snack. Please send in only
nutritious snacks that can be enjoyed WHILE WE CONTINUE working.
Students should also bring bottled drinks (no soda) to have
during snack and after P.E. or recess. All drinks, snacks, and
lunches can be kept in our classroom refrigerator. Please be sure
to label everything.
Family Communication
Each Sunday evening I will send families an email letting you
know timely information for the next week. If you do not have an
email address, I will send home a paper copy.
Work Habits
Sarasota County has adopted a set of Work Habits to its
curriculum. They are as follows:
1. Stay on task.
2. Have a cooperative attitude.
3. Dress appropriately for school.
4. Complete homework on time.
5. Have required materials.
6. Be on time for school.
7. No unexcused absences.
Please be aware that these work habits do affect your child's
grade(s). If your child is in danger of failing Work Habits, a
warning will be indicated on his/her midterm progress report. If
your child continues to experience problems. s/he will receive a
failing grade in Work Habits on the report card.

Birthdays
You are welcome to send a treat for your child's birthday at the
end of the month of your child's birthday. Those students for the
month will have a group celebration. (Tatum's modification per
the Florida Department of Education direction) Please keep it
simple. Also, birthday invitations may be passed
out in class, only if ALL students are invited. Otherwise, please
send them by mail. This will prevent hurt feelings.
