PE Corner Week 2 August 25-29
.K-2 Students are continuing to work on following PE procedures and PE
expectations.
• Follow directions given to the class
• Show compassion for others by helping them
• Use equipment and space safely and properly
• Work in a diverse group setting without interfering with others
To accomplish these goals, students are actively engaged in:
Hot Dog tag The players scatter themselves throughout the playing area. Two
players have the hot dogs. The “its” chase the other players around the
playing area and try to tag them using the plastic hot dog. When a player is
tagged, they must sit down and waves their hands in the air and yell, “I
need a bun!” The tagged player cannot stand up and continue to play until
two other players sit down beside them, one on each side.
Traffic Light Tag-Five students will have a colored ball, red, yellow or
green. When the start signal is sounded, those students will keep holding
onto the ball and touch someone with the ball. When tagged, that student
must then move at the speed associated with the color ball that tagged them.
If they are tagged with a red ball, they must “stop” and sit down. If tagged
with a green ball when sitting, they can get up and go fast speed once
again.
Charlie wants a home-One student stands in the middle of playing area.
Other players are sitting on their own carpet squares cross legged. When
Charlie calls out “Charlie wants a home” players change to a new spot and
Charlie tries to get a spot. The player who cannot find a spot is the new
Charlie and you begin again.
Dice and Cones: This is a locomotor game for Grades 1 and 2. The game uses
skills of hopping, sliding, galloping, and leaping. The dice are rolled and
if the number comes to 10, the students must skip, touch 10 cones, and then
return to the circle. The dice are rolled again. Now students must leap
and touch 7 cones,etc.
Shipwreck: This is a movement game with several exercises. Grade 1 is
playing this game. All students begin with 5 points and the object is to
keep all 5 points. Several calls are made. For example, “Hoist the Sails”
means to do jumping jacks, and “Drop the Anchor” means to do toe
touches. “Hit the Deck” means to do push-ups and “Man Overboard” means to
stand back to back with a friend. There are other calls also. If a student
forgets and does the wrong movement, a point is lost. Besides being an
active game, it also reinforces listening skills.
Grades 3-5 Students are continuing to work on following PE procedures and
PE expectations.
• Cooperating with all class members by taking turns and sharing
equipment
• Assessing and taking responsibility for his or her own behavior
without blaming others
• Accepting teacher decisions without displaying negative reactions
• Encouraging others and refraining from put-down statements
5 Passes- Students sit with a partner. One partner has an object to toss.
On the start signal the pair tosses the object five times. On the fifth toss
each partner has to look for a new partner.
Broken Egg- The game starts out with the teacher designating one fox. The
fox carries the noodle. Two famers carry a chicken and the rest of the
students are chickens. These students have a beanbag that they place on
their head. On the signal, players walk around the playing area. If the
egg falls off a player’s head, that player becomes a concerned chicken and
walks around the dropped egg. The fox tries to tag chickens with the noodle.
When tagged, they must walk around their broken egg. The farmer picks up the
dropped beanbag and places it on the chicken’s head, and the chicken joins
the game again.
Guard Your Pin This is an exercise game for Grades 2-5. All students have a
bowling pin and a ball. Each student guards their own pin and at the same
time, the student is throwing a nerf ball trying to knock over another
person’s pin. If one’s pin is knocked over, that student must perform an
exercise to get back into the game.
The Blob: Grades 3-5 are playing this tag game. Four students are it and
they are trying to tag other students in the class. If the “it” makes a
tag, that student must join hands with the tagger. Soon 3 or 4 students are
part of the blob. There are 4 blobs so eventually all of the students get
caught. The winning team is the blob that has the most students.
Kindergarten classes are working on following signals and procedures. They
are learning exercises, performing non-locomotor and locomotor activities.
Also they are performing various rhythmic movements.
