THE PEACEMAKING PROGRAM
Success at school and success in life are about interacting successfully
with others. Parents and school staff work continually with children to help
them understand how their actions affect others. And these actions promote
or inhibit successful relationships.
The Peacemaking Program emphasizes the feelings our actions create and pulls
together the various components of "socialization" into meaningful concepts
and activities for children.
THE COMMUNITY OF CARING
For 2008-09, Venice Elementary has joined the growing network of Community
of Caring schools across America. Created by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, this
character education approach targets five core values – caring, respect,
responsibility, trust, and family.
Venice Elementary has been building fine young citizens for more than 50
years. As a natural extension of the Peacemaking Program, the Community of
Caring framework will help coordinate those activities and help us reach out
into the community, as well. The program is coordinated by George Drummond.
Assistant Coordinator is Barbara Sirpilla. Stay tuned for upcoming projects
under the umbrella of Community of Caring.
