George Drummond is a life-long educator with experiences as a guidance
counselor, an elementary school teacher, and a high school music teacher.
And, for awhile, he was a professional singer based in New York City.
Mr. Drummond holds a master's degree in education from Towson University and
a master's degree in counseling from Johns Hopkins University.
Mr. Drummond believes in the positive power of children. If he has learned
one thing, it is that children will take responsibility if they are
empowered to do so. His Peer Discipline program places children in charge of
managing classroom behavior. And his Peacemaking Program gives children the
responsibility for resolving conflicts peacefully.
Give children the tools and they will build a better world for tomorrow.
"A counselor in elementary school? Why?"
That is a question an elementary counselor often hears. And the answer is
simple. Children have the same problems adults do. What affects the parent
affects the child. But children have no frame of reference from which
to deal with problems. Access to a counselor is extremely important in the
lives of young children to help them verbalize their problems and to
brainstorm solutions.
Mr. Drummond's mission is to listen. To the child. To the parent. To the
teacher. And, from what he learns, to do whatever is necessary to help
create conditions in which the child can come to school ready and eager
to learn.
