What are the school times?
The school times are different for various grade levels.
Kindergarten and
First grade children must be seated by 8:20 a.m. and are
dismissed at
1:50 p.m. every day. Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade
students must be
seated by 8:35 a.m. and are dismissed at 3:05 p.m. every day
except for
Wednesdays when the entire school is dismissed at 1:50 p.m.
Please ensure
that your children arrive on time.
What if my child forgets his/her homework, lunch, lunch money ?
Bring the item to the Main Office. The classroom teacher will be
notified
and your child will be allowed to come to the office as soon as
the teacher
deems appropriate. Do not bring the item to the classroom
yourself.
What if I want to volunteer at VABHOE?
All visitors and volunteers must wear dated labels to enter any
part of the campus
besides the Main Office. If you want to volunteer, please see Ms.
Batista
in the Student Service Area to register. You may register online
through the Parent Portal. All potential volunteers
must be approved through a screening process from our district
office.
If you have already been approved for volunteer status last year,
you must still update your application through the Parent Portal.
You will enter the name of our school and any other school you
might be volunteering in.
Do I have to report my child's absence?
Yes. You must write a note within three days in order for the
absence to be
excused. Please check the Parent/Student Handbook in your child's
agenda for
absences that are considered excused.
How do I contact my child's teacher?
You may contact your child's teacher in various ways: write a
note to the
teacher, call the Main Office and leave a message that will be
placed in the
teacher's mailbox, call the school and leave a message on the
teacher's
telephone extension, write an e-mail to the teacher either
through school
e-mail or through the teacher's mailbox on his/her Teacherweb.com
webpage.
Please do not just "pop in" to talk to the teacher
without an appointment.
Is VABHOE a mandatory uniform school?
Yes! Your child should be wearing a white, aqua, or black shirt
with the
school logo. Pants, long shorts, skirts, skorts, or dresses
should be beige
or black. On Fridays, students may wear jeans if they wear a
School Spirit
shirt which may be purchased from our PTA. Call the Main Office
for
information as to wear you can purchase the mandatory uniforms.
Please make
sure your child wears sneakers or closed toed shoes. Sandals,
crocs,
sneakers with skates, or flip-flops are not safe and
consequently, not
allowed.
What are the school's office hours?
Our school office hours are 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. every
day. We are
closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
Where do I drop off my child in the morning?
Students line
up next to their home room class or pod building. Teachers open
their
doors at 8:10 a.m. or 8:25 a.m. depending on the grade level.
Students only may enter the classrooms.
Special area
teachers will be assigned areas to assist students and parents.
Parents must
clear the campus immediately after their child has entered their
building.
Drop-off will continue at the front of the school and on 207th
Avenue. We
will have staff and safety patrols at both areas to help your
students enter
our campus safely. Please have your child ready to exit from the
right side
of the vehicle and allow them to walk to the sidewalk.Drivers
should
not leave their cars parked in this zone. If you want to watch or
walk your
child into class, please park in the designated parking areas,
not at the
bus/car drop-off.
Where do I pick up my child in the afternoon?
Kindergarten and First Grade students will be dismissed at 1:50
p.m through
the exit doors at their building. Parents are not permitted in
the building.
Grades 2-5 will be dismissed at 3:05 p.m.(1:50 p.m. on
Wednesdays) and
students will either walk home, go the the front of the school
for parent
pick-up or behind the school on 207th Avenue next to the large
tree.
Students must be picked up within fifteen minutes after dismissal
as we do
not have adult supervision after that time.
Where do I park?
For the safety of our students, parents and visitors are not
permitted to
park in the upper parking lot near the Main Office. Parents and
visitors are
welcome to park in our lower parking lot and the side adjacent to
that lot.
Additionally, parking is available along the side of the road
adjacent to
the park. Please do not park in the drop-off zone on 207th
Street, in the
designated bus area or in the middle of the turnabouts.
What if my child needs to leave early or has a different dismissal procedure?
As per MDCPS policy, no student will be dismissed within 30
minutes of the
dismissal time unless the dismissal has been approved by an
administrator.
If you know ahead of time that your child needs to leave early,
send a note
in with your child letting the teacher know either what time you
will be
picking up your child or how you child will be going home that
day. When
picking up your child, you must check in at the Main Office and
we will call
your child to meet you there. All students must be signed out by
an approved
adult who must show identification-- a picture I.D. No child will
be
dismissed to any person without identification.
How do I keep informed about what is happening at VABHOE?
Monthly Calendars with Parent Newsletters: Each month a monthly
calendar
with a parent newsletter will be published and sent
home with
your child. This is to inform you of past happenings and future
events and
activities at our school. Flyers are also sent home informing you
of
upcoming events. Also, visit your child's teacher website as well
as our
school and PTA website to keep up on all of our school happenings
and
student
recognitions. Telephone and e-mail messages for important
announcements are sent home
periodically.

is a wealth

Log on to the Internet and go to www.dadeschools.net for up-to-
date
information. Also, listen to local stations on your radio and
television.
School closings and openings will be listed. The MDCPS Parent
Information
