Arts 4 Learning Program
We have been chosen to participate in a creative arts program! An artist from the Arts 4 Learning Program will be coming to our classroom 2x a week for 1 hour-periods and teaching us about the arts. We will be learning about different art forms, such as creative, performing, visual, dramatic, etc. We are very excited and will be sure to bring home all of our creative art projects!

We are also collecting: newspapers, toilet paper tubes, and paper towel tubes. Please send these in, if you can.

Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year Celebrations

Please remember, we have 15 classmates in total. Also, each child should bring in an empty cardboard cereal box, to use in making our Valentine mailboxes. Bring in your cereal boxes by Monday, February 8th. Thanks.

Tardy and Absences Policy

As a friendly reminder, the tardy bell rings at 8:30 AM. If you are outside of the building after the bell has already rung, you are considered tardy. Please proceed WITH YOUR CHILD to the main office and obtain a tardy pass. Only your child may enter the building with their tardy pass. Once instruction has begun, it is very disruptive for parents to come in the building or classroom. Please know that each student is very familiar with the routine and know what to do during morning arrival. I appreciate your cooperation.
If you're child is absent from school, please send a written note once they return to school. Check the Student Handbook for all excused absences (i.e. illness); if not, the absence will be marked as unexcused (i.e. vacation).

Reminders
Now that we are entering the winter season, it is also the cold & flu season. If your child is sick, please keep them home. They need to rest and recuperate. It is not only unfair to your child to send them to school when they are not feeling 100%, but it is also unfair to their peers and teachers. Please remember that this is a cooperative learning classroom. We share all toys, manipulatives, and school supplies. Thank you for helping to keep our classroom and students germ-free!

2010-2011 Role Model Interviews
If anyone is interested in having their child in our pre-k class for the 2010-2011 school year as a ROLE MODEL, please contact me on or after February 1, 2010. You can leave me a message on my voice mail 305-931-1770 ext. 501 or with the office staff. Please state your name, child's name & birthdate, and contact information clearly. I will contact you in March to schedule an interview for April. Interviews will begin on April 6th, 2010 and will last the entire month. In order to be
considered as a ROLE MODEL, your child MUST:

  • Be 4 years old by September 1st and obtain a VPK certificate
  • Have appropriate social skills
  • Show appropriate behavior and listening skills
  • Have age-appropriate expressive and receptive verbal language
  • Have never been referred to or evaluated by special education services
As a reminder, this is primarily a program for children with disabilities, and role models need to be interviews before being accepted into the program. There are ONLY 8 openings for role models, and an interview does not guarantee a spot. If you're interested in the general education VPK program, please contact vpkhelp.org for public school locations. Thank you, Mrs. Hiraldo
