Homework is practice at home that helps reinforce skills and concepts
learned in the classroom. It will be given each night and will be expected
on the following day. If a student is absent, on the day of their return,
they must get the missed homework for the day(s) they were absent and turn
all assignments in the following day.
Here are some of the things parents can do to help their child have a
successful year:
*Check the agenda daily. All assignments will be listed there. Late homework
assignments are not accepted.
*Check school supplies weekly. (See supply list for the items that are
needed daily.)
*Students will keep a monthly Reading Log that will be explained in class.
The first log will begin in September and will contain the title, genre,
and comments about each book. In addition to books, the reading logs must
include two articles. The article can be from a children's magazine, a
newspaper, or any online resource. Reading Logs can be hand written neatly
or computer generated. It will be turned in for a grade every two months.
*All homework assignments will be discussed in class. Homework is written
daily on the board. Students are expected to write their assignments in
their agenda. Assignments, unless otherwise stated, are due the next day.
*Students will be expected to read nightly for 30 minutes with completed
books being recorded on their Reading Log.
*Our library program has begun.
Here are some helpful guidelines:
Students will read books on their independent reading level.
Students are encouraged to choose books that interest them.
Students will read one chapter book a week or two nonfiction
books each week. They will take a short comprehension test
following each book on the computer, so it is important that
they read the book carefully. Students will record their score
on a classroom log. This program will encourage reading and make
students accountable for accomplishing their reading goals.
Students who are reading longer books will have more time to
complete them if needed.
