Announcements

It looks like February is going to be another busy month!

We learned a lot about Pucksatawny Phil on Groundhog Day. He predicts 6 more weeks of winter.
We celebrated 100 days of school. We are learning about the Rainforest and about Rosa Parks.

 I saw many of you at the Family Fun Day. It was a great event and it looks like you had a lot o fun!

~~~Get your Valentines ready!  Only sign your name.  Do not write the names of the people to whom
you are giving the valentines. It will be easier to hand out .  We have 26 students. Any Candy, pencils,
valentine treats are welcome.  We will be making Valentine Mail Bags in class.
~~~~We will be talking about the Presidents, especially George Washington and Abe Lincoln.

~~~~~ It is Black History Month, so we will be discussing the contributions of some famous Black
Americans.
~~~~~~ It is also Dental Health Month. Time to check our brushing habits. Has your child had a
dental check-up and cleaning?

Mrs. Hauver, our snack Mom, has made a list of weeks that are still unclaimed for snacks. I have
posted it on the back door window. If it is not there, see me if you can sign up for a week of snacks.
The Kids do look forward to them each day. The bananas went over big and chips are always a
favorite! Please avoid products with peanuts or nuts.

Please check your child's supplies. Most kids need glue sticks, scissors, new crayons. Some zipper
bags need replacing. If your child's homework folder is ripped or missing, I have some homework
folders, compliments of Mrs. Felder.

 In Math we are working on patterns of numbers and shapes. We are also adding and subtraction
facts to 20 using different strategies. . Children are excited to be using larger numbers. Chapter 13
will be combined with related math material. We will practice numbers up to the thousands place,
trading ones, tens and hundreds. We are also taking timed tests. We will be reviewing patterns and
pattern units.

In Science we are working on Chapter 11: Night and Day Sky. Hopefully we will get to the textbook
this week. We are working on the rainforest habitat in conjunction with our Story: The Red-eyed
Tree Frog. Children will do a few activities across the curriculum with this information. Please have
pictures ready for Tuesday or Wednesday so we can complete our collage mural in class.

Try to use Riverdeep and Ticket-to-Read on your Home computer. I have updated and raised levels
on Ticket to Read! I have made some assignments for the kids to do on Riverdeep. I am trying to
stay up-to-date with Spelling City.com. See the Links on my Website, Some of the links aren't
launching so you may have to type in the URL title.

Handwriting is an important skill. We will be going over writing our letters. Children should practice
their handwriting, especially when doing homework. Spelling words will be coming home on
Mondays and assignments will be given daily to practice these. Please complete homework neatly
each evening. Check supplies for missing items. I suggest packing book bags the night before so
nothing is left at home.

  If you have any questions you can e-mail me through this website or drop me a note if you need to
see me for a conference. Please be aware that parents may not come in to the classroom unless
they have a photo pass from the office. After school I have meetings or much to do to get ready for
the kids the next day.

 Thanks for everything you do. Everyone has been so helpful and generous with all the
classroom supplies, snacks, etc. Thanks for your support!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Renee Hanna

   * I send home the "Little Readers" on Fridays so the kids can practice
some of the common sight words. Please sign the post-it note and return when
indicated.

   *Gratefully, many parents ask if I need anything for the classroom.
There is a WISH LIST posted in my classroom and I will try to update it on
this website. The children and I truly appreciate all donations and thank
you in advance.

   *Thanks to all who signed up for a week of snacks each semester. The kids
really look forward to this each afternoon. We will try to remind you when
it is your turn. Thanks so much for being so generous.

  *All supplies, sweaters, lunch boxes, school book bags, and any other
things that are brought to use in school must be LABELED with your child's
name.

  *BOOK CLUB orders will be going home periodically. This a great way to
get books at good prices and help us to earn points to build our classroom
library and give back to your children.

  *Please be sure your child can tie his or her shoes!

  *We are collecting BOX TOPS! Be on the lookout when purchasing products
with boxtops for education.
