Week of February 13, 2012
Thanks to Alexandra's mom for bringing in the yummy smores. The children
surely enjoyed making this delicious treat for Groundhog Day.
Thank you to those parents who have made sure that their children are
prepared for their spelling tests. Your help is truly appreciated. The
students get very excited and feel so proud to receive their certificates.
You should see their smiling faces and how proud they look.
Many children are running low on school supplies. Please replace broken
crayons, glue sticks and pencils ASAP.
Reading:
Continue Theme 6 this week.
Introduce new Alphafriend Queenie Queen.
Work on blending phonemes.
Work on improving independent writing.
Have your child keep a home journal for practice.
Retell story in sequence.
Identify setting and main characters in stories.
Review "an" rhyming words. Introduce "et" rhyming words.
Work on building sentences using rhyming words. (The cat sat on the mat.)
Practice blending short /a/ words and /i/ words.
Work on verbs (action words) and order words (first,next,then, and last).
Create and write sentences with given high frequency words (I,see,like,and,to
my).
Introduce asking who,what,when,where,and why after you read a story with your
child.
Continue compound words. Try and write sentences using compound words.
Math:
Identify,name,describe and sort two-dimensional shapes such as
squares,triangles,circles,rectangles, hexagons, and trapezoids.
Identify vocabulary (corner,equal sides, vertices and vertex)
Use pattern blocks to make new shapes.
Draw a picture using just shapes.
Sort and graph Valentine candy hearts. (in class)
Important information.........
We will be exchanging Valentine's Day cards in our class Tuesday.
Please have your child bring in cards for all the children. They just need
to sign their own name on each card. We now have 22 students. Also wear red
to school.

Wednesday - AR Test for those children who have a library book.
