Homework Policies

READING LOGS

Reading every day is mandatory every single night for 30 minutes for Home
Learning in Dade County Public Schools. Every student in the classroom is
expected to follow this requirement. Daily, the student's are to log down
what they've read onto their "Reading Log" every night with a required
parent signature attached. Parents, please support and enforce this daily
reading by signing off to ensure that your child has followed their
assignment for Home Learning. I will be checking this log every day. If
lost, I do not issue another log for that month. It is very important that
they keep this monthly log in their folders DAILY!

VOCABULARY WORD MAPS

On Monday mornings every child will be writing their weekly Vocabulary words
onto their individualized agenda book. This book is used for writing down
all their daily homework assignments in. Each student should have purchased
an agenda book the first week already! Also, your child should have
purchased a personal dictionary for home usage. Keep in mind that
independent dictionary skills ex.(Finding words in ABC order)are mandatory
for 2nd grade and have already been introduced in the previous grade.
Please, assist your child as needed for support if they are having a problem
looking up words independently. Additionally, computers may be used for
defining words only if a word cannot be found in their personal dictionary.
They will be receiving wk. sheet copies every week to write their definitions
on. If left at school, they are responsible for still doing their Vocabulary
Word Maps homework onto another sheet of notebook paper.

NO HOMEWORK POLICY

Conduct cuts will be received on their report cards for children who do not
turn in homework on a daily basis. I will be sending home a "Missing Home
Learning" notice w/ your child that must be signed by parents to keep you
informed that he/she is not meeting classroom homelearning policies.
