Announcements

Our second grade class will be going on our first field trip on Friday, November 19, 2010 to The Playground Theatre in Miami Shores to see "Alice in Wonderland". We will need a couple of parent chaperones. Parents must fill out the volunteer form on the parent portal every year. If you were a volunteer last year you still need to do this for this year. This must be done at least 2 weeks prior to the fieldtrip. Once you have done so, please call Ruth Klein in the office and check with her to see if your application went through. Let me know as soon as you know. Since we will be going on a couple of field trips this year, we will be able to have different parents chaperone. Many thanks!

Welcome to Level 2. I am looking forward to an exciting, enriching, and rewarding year with many positive experiences for all of us. Since attendance is mandatory in Dade County Public Schools, please check your Parent/Student Handbook for the schedule for the school year. (My Calendar page will also list days off, early dismissals, and all holidays) Check testing dates in your school handbook. I appreciate your scheduling doctor appointments and family trips when school is not in session.

It is most important that your child arrives to school on time. They will come directly to the classroom each morning at 8:25 A.M. No parents are allowed to come into the classroom at that time. We will use the side door of our classroom for dismissal only at 3:05.

Your child is required to have a book for pleasure reading in our class. We do have a class library, so there are plenty of books available. Your child is also required to read each night for thirty minutes and record the information on the RED sheet. Homework is a requirement and necessary for reinforcement and extension of concepts and skills taught in class. It is also given to teach responsibility. School homework assignments are due the next day unless they are projects such as a book report or a Science or Social Studies project. Homework loses its value when it cannot be reviewed at the appropriate time. Please look at homework folders EVERYDAY for assignments and notices (the HOMEWORK page of this site will also list all assignments, however they will not be posted until late in the day). All students must follow the school home learning policy.

December 2, 2010

For those of you who celebrate, I wish you and your family a very happy Chanukah! Enjoy the holiday.

With love,

Mrs. S. Sheir
